2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tire date codes

I will be purchasing new tires this spring for my 2wd duallie 3500 (235-85R16). I want tires with as recent manufacture date as possible. I am told some of the warranties will not cover a tire past 5 years and I will not wear my tires out in that period of time. Has anyone made a tire purchase and asked the tire dealer to get them tires only with a recent date code?



I have not decided for sure what tire I will buy but the Michelin XPS is getting serious consideration. The date code thing has me concerned. I can remember when tire warranties were good as long as there was reasonable tread, but not anymore.

I was told that they cannot sell a tire after 4 years old, due to a 3/4 years to ware down, for a total of 8 years total. that is close to the limit for the rubber drying out. the date was on the back sidewall, but the newer tire are now on the front sidewall. It use to be in a letter code but now they use real numbers, i think 2 didget month & 2 didget year. I have not looked at any of my tires in over a year, so I am going by memory.

HHMMM I thought the first two digits was the week? Somebody know for sure on that. I have Michelin XPS Traction tread on the 4 rear and Highway tread on the front and like them.

I recently bought a set of tires for the car and I asked to see the codes before I bought, not a problem if they want to sell tires. bg

When I got my Goodyears I told him I wanted the latest dates possible, and he did they were like one week old. Different story on the ones for my trailer, but they don't move as quick as the ones for the truck.

I would absolutely ask for new date tires. Having been boned on my trailer (2005 trailer with 2002 tires on it, new), I check when I get new tires. Three of the original tires on the trailer crapped out. Could be because they were ST tires, but they were old.

I also had a bad experience with trailer tires, one of the four tires was 4 years older than the others. Fortunately I caught this before there was a failure.

I'll be coming up for a new set of tires this year (over 110K) and something I've never thought about until recently was the spare tire. It's the original spare that came with the truck. Whenever I get the new set, I'm going to pick out the best of the old tires and have it installed as the spare. I'm afraid to even look at the age of the spare... ... ...

I purchased 5 LT Michelin XPS Ribs for my new 5th wheel from Discount tire recently. I had them show me the manufactured date before they mounted them, which were very recent.



I sold the original 5 ST tires on Craigslist cheap, which also had a recent made date.
