I was wondering... is it possible to run 35"x12. 50" tires on a 2500 4x4 without a lift? I would get a set of wheels with enough backspacing to run them, of course. I have heard people say that I would need 2" of lift to keep them from rubbing. I have looked and looked at the space available in the wheelwells, and even with the wheel turned all the way, it seems there is enough clearance. How hard would I have to bounce before they would rub? Would it be okay to run them on the street for now without a lift, and lift the truck 2" prior to doing any offroading? My problem is, I don't have the money right now to afford tires, wheels and a lift. Any suggestions?

At May Madness this year, Banks had a 2500 with 35's and no lift. The guy said it would rub occasionally at full lock when hitting a bump. I had 33's on my 2500 with no lift and couldn't see how anything larger would fit, but now I have seen it done. I guess it would depend on how hard you drive the truck off-road.

I don't intend to run the truck hard off-road until adding a lift to clear the tires. For now, I would stay on flat ground & asphalt.

Dixiedawg,
I would say the 35's are a bit tall without a lift. The best thing to do is call a couple of companies that make lift kits and they have charts that tell you what size lifts work with what size tires.
Skyjacker's tech # is 318-388-0816 or Tuff Country's is 800-288-2190. These are just two that I quickly pulled out of one of my 4X4 magazines.
Good luck and post what you find out so other folks will know. #ad

they will fit and not rub check out my signature I don't have the spacers in yet but will soon just to level the truck as long as you use the stock rims they will not rub. I have 35 13. 50 baja claws on stock rims they are truly 34. 5 inches tall. don't worry about a thing

I am running Americas Tire Pathfinder ATR 315/75R16's (they calc out to 34. 6") on my Y2K w/stock aluminum wheels. My truck is totally stock. The tires rub on the control arms at full lock and make a large turning radius even larger. I need to adjust the steering stops to prevent the control arm rubbing. I have not had any problem with hitting the fenders but I have not taken this truck off road - that's what my jeep is for #ad

Just remember that w/o lowering the bumpstops that the even with the lift the tires may hit the fenders when off road. If the tires hit w/o a lift they will hit with the lift UNLESS you lower the bump stops (or the springs are so stiff that it is impossible to compress them that far).

Hey TURBO-D, how do you like the Claws? Do they handle a 7000 lb. truck well on wet pavement? How noisy are they? My first choice in new tires was the Baja Claw Radial but because of price and the lack of siping I am now looking at the new Super Swamper SSR radials instead. BTW, I have the stock steel Rally-type wheels, not the aluminum ones, so I don't think I can run a 12. 50" wide tire without changing wheels to increase rim width and backspacing. If I'm wrong on this, let me know.

claws are very nice a little noise but livable, they aren't loud until you hit around 70mph but I like a little noise. I got the bias ply's and they shake a little above 70 but not too bad I love the way they look and they stick to the pavement pretty good, the taller tires added a full second to my 0-60 times (0-55 now to compensate for the added tire height)Now it does 12. 06 instead of high 10's low 11's. I thnk if I put 4. 56 gears in I may regain some of that time I'm contemplating it. I'm not sure about SSR's if you touch the tread it's very soft almost gummy like a drag radial, seems like it would wear out fast on a heavy truck.

oh If your rims are 8 inches wide you can run a 12. 50, I'm not sure if yours would be 7's or 8's it might be stamped on the back of the rim try to stay with the stock backspacing they do rub slightly on the control arms but clear the fenders nicely. Mine rub the control arms but it doesn't hurt a thing it doesn't tear the tread up so I say just leave it alone

I'm pretty sure the wheels I have are 16"x7" or even 16"x6. 5". I was told by a local 4x4 shop that I couldn't run 13. 50" Claws on these rims. The wheels I have decided upon can be seen at http://www.tyres1.com/ they are made by Superior Wheel and are called "Monte Carlo Ebony" They are inexpensive, and come in the correct lug pattern/size for my truck. If I can use my stock chrome center caps on them, I think they'll look good against my Dark Garnet Red too.

When you install the spacer kit, make sure to read the directions. Last week when I had my hitch replaced, a guy was in there for service and he installed the new lower control arm on the top!? His coil spring was twisted bad and the front end had enough caster for a lift tall enough to run 44's. Good luck and happy wheeling!

A friend put 285/75-16 tires on his '97 4x4 2500. All cool except will rub slightly on the Mopar added front mud flaps when wheel turned. The 285/75-16 equals 32. 8" dia x 11. 2" wide.
