My 2001 Dodge dually came with Goodyear AP 235x85Rx16 tires. I replaced the front tires with the same tire. The tires vibrated so bad the dash, steering wheel and gear shift was shaking the faster I drove. The dealer then mounted 9 tires. He said between the tires and the wheels he could not get them balanced without an excessive amount of weights. He was blaming both Goodyear and the dually type of wheels for the difficulty in getting them balanced. He installed the best 2 of the bunch and told me to give them a try. I drove the 30 miles home an the vibration is still unacceptable. I sure could use some advice.

I and many others on this board don't have a lot of positive experiences with Goodyear. I'd suggest going straight over to Michelin or BF Goodrich - both of which I've used and can't remember a tire that was difficult to balance and didn't get the mileage expected from it. It would probably be worthwhile to also inspect the steering linkage and front suspension for excessive play or misalignment - you never know...

I used to work in a front-end shop and when we balanced tires, if they took an excessive amount of tire weights to get them to run smooth, we would break the tire loose from the rim and spin it 180 degrees. The rim and tire both have heavy spots and by blind luck they can line up and really throw off the balance.
