Front tire blew out last night, need to get some new ones, I am running 255/85/R16's, anyone have some suggestions for brands, I need to get the narrowest ones, the duals in the rear need some more space between them. I saw a set of Cooper Discoverers on a truck, they had plenty of space between the duals, and I don't think he had a set of wheel spacers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This may be old news, but... . on 2000 or 2001 models, the standard tire size on the 3500's was upgraded to 235-85-16. The wheels on these trucks have more off-set, allowing 255-85-16's to be run without a clearance problem with most 255's.

I'm looking for at least 4 of these late model wheels if anyone needs to clean out the garage.

Thanks, Ronnie

Well I have 18,000 my trucks and factory Goodyears. Unlike others mine seem to be wearing fime. When I buy some new ones they will be Michlens as I have bought them in the past for all kinds of vehicles and for me they work the best. My stock tires are 235 85R 16 E load rated. Hope this helps a little. :)

I'm running a set of 7. 50 X 16. They are made by Eldorado. They are as tal las a 235/85, and only as wide as a 215/85. I've got 11,000 miles on mine and the tread depth is about 1/32 lower than it was at brand new. Pics of them are on my website.

What I am looking for is a set of tires that are as tall as the 255/85's but skinny enough to put on a dually. I am kind of used to the size of the tires now and hate to go down a size. I may have to look at a set of wheel spacers, but I do not want to weaken the rear end. Any ideas, or has anyone had any experience with wheel spacers?

245-75 would be too wide

Althought my spare is one(previous owner). I've never had it bolted up.

245-75 works out to be about 30 1/2" tall x 9 5/8" wide. Different brands will vary.

What brand of 255x85x16 are you running?I am thinking of going with the B. F GOODWRENCH mud terrain, but would like anyones input on how they like them.

Love 'em!

BFG's have been nothing but good to me over the last 10 years or so (All I have ever run on anyhthing from 35" on down)

ToolManTimTaylor,

I am considering putting on the same tire. How well do they handle on the road, and how is the noise level?

Thanks!

John, about 2 or 3 years ago there was a lot of discussion about this in the TDR mag. The number I recall was 9. 4" of cross section width as being the max safe size for our duallys. The 2000 and 2001 can go wider.

Welp,

Welp the Cummins is louder,

and they handle like a one ton truck on tires. ;) All kidding aside I love 'em snow is not a problem at all (Rip thru it) and as far as I am concerned I never thought about the "Handeling" part do you mean any pulling = No any vibrations= No but all in all great on and off road (SHINE in the later of the two)

I am about to switch to the 255/85-16's very soon. I am considering the Dunlop Radial Rovers. I would love to run the BFG AT's, but they only make the MT's in that size. I have found the Dunlops for about $109. 00 locally.
