Had my 04. 5 up the air going to rotate the tires. Couldnt get the rear ones off . I think I read a post about this but cant find it in the archives. Anyone been here before?? I have the ugly casted alum rims, if that makes a differece

I had all the lugs nuts off and beat on the tire with a 8lb sledge. Couldnt budge it, If I had a buddy to really hold the brake I know i could have got it loose by putting it in gear and running it up in rpms and droping it off the jack. What do you think??

In a previous post, guys were saying they loosen the lug nuts so they are barely touching and drive it for a short distance, including a turn or two to wiggle them a bit, breaking the seizure. . I would think 50' or so would do it. When you put them back on, a bit of anti-seize compound at the binding point was also advised. Haven't had the problem myself, luckily...

Dang, let me know if you want to swap wheels.

Edit: Try PB Blaster on the hub. I love the stuff.

Take it to the dealer and let them break it loose for you, then anti sieze around the the surfaces where the hub touches the rim. Anytime you are putting 2 different metals together, you need antisieze.

I see this all the time in the bicycle biz. Guys put aluminum or titanium seatposts in steel frames and a year later, they can't get them out.

I'm not sure if I read you correctly but I wouldn't be dropping the jack with the wheels/tires spinning. Could cause harm to a lot of things.

My brother had this happen to his Ford F250 with aluminum wheels. We tried everything including a 20 lb. sledge. We finally got them to break loose by loosening the lug nuts slightly and driving the truck around the block. We used never-sieze on the wheels and no problems since.

Thanks guys for the input. I got a free coupon for a tire rotation. This will be a good time to use it. I just dont like the dealer touching my rigs!!

I took a bottle jack and place the butt of it on the shock mounts and the cylinder on the rim. A few pump later it was off. Do use never-sieze when it goes back on

Just rotated my steel Rickson's for the first time the other day. 10lb sledge smacking the side of a 16 ply tire and it still took a few minutes each to get the rears off. Emery cloth and anti-seize will hopefully make things easier next time. Rims still went on hard though.

I had to do the "jack the rim off the hub" thing on a trailer once. Took two 12 ton jacks to get the thing off. Did that on the roadside in SD.

that happened to me also, but it was freezing cold out and i had a flat. all i had for a weapon was the spare. so after mule kicking the flat tire for a few minutes i decided to throw the spare tire into the flat tire and tada it came off.

Rotated mine yesterday and though it was not as hard as the first time it still took a light tap with a 10 lb sledge to pop them off. The hit was so soft I'm not sure why I couldn't pull it off but it wouldn't budge.

I have been reading all these first time troubles with tire rotation and oil filter changing. I have decided that I too will take my first oil change and tire rotation to my dealer, as they just listed a sale for both for $89. 00. . I'll take over from then on, let them earn the extra few dollars...
