Off Roading Tire size for 1st gen

Dose anyone know how big I can go with out hitting anything. I have a 1993 1st gen

Is your truck a 4x4? Does it have a lift? Do you want to buy wheels, or do you want to use the ones you have. If so what size are they. Lots of details left out. Here's what I have. 91 W250 with 6" blocks in rear, leveling springs in front, 16. 5x9. 75 wheels with 35x12. 50r16. 5s. I get a little rub at 3/4 lock under compression in the rear of the front wheel wells, but I think 8" wheels would cure it. There is no rub at full lock.

With stock ride height on a 4x4, 285s will rub at full lock. This problem can be solved with an add a leaf to the front for about $60. Or you can trim the fenders a little. Otherwise you have to go down a size.

No lift and I would like to keep stock wheels for now The stock size of tire is 235 85 r16 and it has 265 75 r16 on it now wich one is bigger and can I go bigger

275s is as large as you can go with no lift or fender trimming, unless you can tolerate a lot of rubbing. But I don't really know if that is a common size. If not, you'll have to pay through the nose to get them.

My cousin has a 93 Ram 350 4x4 and with no lift he was able to fit my 37"x12. 5"R16 SSR Super Swampers. I was really surprised but they fit and did not rub when at full lock. They only rubbed when he started flexing the truck on some trails.

Sorry Jerald, I JUST saw this post. . if it's not too late to say. . I run 285/16R M/S BFG's.

No problem so far and I have noticable front end settling as is common on the 1st Gen trucks.

On my '92 4x4 CTD I have Goodyear AT/S 305/70/r16 and had to add a leaf and trim a little to prevent rubbing. I love these tires, but my next set will be a little bit more aggressive.

I'm running 33x12. 50 on 16. 5x9. 75 rims and they will rub on the back of the front fenders while turning as the spring compresses. Doesn't do it often but every now and then. I have 2. 5" springs in front. I had an add a leaf in front and it rubbed more because the axle was farther back. I could fit a 35" with no cutting if I was careful but it does go off road evary now and then.

2. 5" skyjacker's in front and BFG AT 285/75/16's on the factory rims no rub on mine and you can stuff the tire in the fender real hard...



I have seen 285's on a stock truck but... If your truck is stock do the springs and some good rancho shocks... it will ride 10 times better... well worth the money. . I just did the front bought just the prings and bushings... bought the shocks seperate... also if you tow heavy make sure you get some wider wheels. . the 285's on 16x6 wheels works but if you are loaded real hard they move around a little when sideloaded. . not bad--- but if you have over 6k on the rear of the truck it gets squirly going arround corners...



... I have seen 35's with the same setup no problems... If you trim the fenders the 37" combo with the 2. 5 inch lift fits. . lots of fender room..... 4" lift 40"s will fit but alot more fender trimming.....

No way 37's will fit on a stock 1st gen. Ive tried everything from 33's to 40's. heck, I had 35's with a 6" and they would rub (it was used HARD though). My 37" boggers tagged the fenders with 7". I am now running 7" with 40's, and thanks to the sawzall, they fit, except they hit the draglink hard when turning right, until the crossover gets done.

My grandpa had a 93 with 285's and they hit the back of the front fender under full compression/slightly turned.
