Looking at tires today found the 265/70R/17 and 275/70R/17 difference is about and inch taller, and half inch wider, will they both fit on my 2x4 04.5 cclb and still be able to turn wheel lock to lock without interference problems.

I cant find the duty rating for the 275 the 265 is 3195lbs single im only assuming that the the 275 would be in the same ball park figure.

also found 285 its the same load rate 3195lbs single

any other thoughts?

BIG... 3/4 or dually? The 265 should fit fine on stock wheels..... either way. There is very little difference. Typically, the 275s are only 6 ply, and the 285s are 8 ply.... there are a few manufacturers that are making the 285 in 10 ply, such as Toyo, IIRC. I don't know of anyone making the 275s in 8 or 10 ply..... Strangely, the 275 and the 285s are very similar in size..... I'm guessing the 275 is an SUV tire....

Anyway, the 285 should fit.... It's only roughly an inch taller and an inch wider than the 265s..... as long as you don't have a huge FUGLY front bumper to sag the front end down, it should fit.....

You'll see SL, which basically stands for a 6ply SUV tire.... and BW stands for Blackwall, and OWL stands for Outlined white letter.....

Thanks HH went post hunting on this new advanced site set up

The truck in question is a 3/4 ton I was just wondering about getting a bigger footprint under the truck.

I would like to know if you ever find this post again on your post hunting adventure if you have used Cooper Tires before, and if so what was your take on them. I have a Pard in town that has them on a Ford, he has gotten great mileage out of his and has found that even thou they are not a snow tire or an aggressive tread design they grip in snow really well.

Happy post hunting, Send up a smoke signal if you can find time from your busy post hunting safari and I will try to keep an eye out for the smoke 3 short and 2 long puffs of smoke.:-laf

I like my Coopers. I did run the Cooper ST MAXX for 2 sets. They are a legitimate snow tire. They have the snowflake imprint on the sidewall. Great bite in the snow but as with all true snow tires, they had a shorter tread life. My local tire guy now is selling the Starfire brand. It's a private label built by Cooper. Looks just like a Cooper Discoverer. We'll see how it lasts, but the tire shop said they have had no comebacks on them. I don't think you'll be happy with any tire less than 10 ply if you work the truck at all. My 2cts..

I've run quite a few Coopers, especially the Cooper built Mastercraft. The Mastercraft AXT and the Cooper STT have a very high silica content, which really helps it grab on ice and snow. Mainly, I run the 315/75R16, with 5 sets of my own on the ground at the moment, 4 of which are 8 ply, and three of which are Cooper built tires.... The Sumitomo built Falkens have held up well, but don't balance as well as the Toyo or Cooper's. They are the current tire of choice, as they are the primary product sold by my wholesalers, and I've had outstanding service from them for three years, now. As for the 8 ply, I feel the actual capacity says a lot for the tire, and I run all sets on 3/4 Dodges, equipped with steel beds, and used extensively offroad. I also have several sets of 315/70/R17s running, mostly the Mastercraft AT. They seem to require regular rotation more so than the Toyo ATs. Also, on top of my personal use, I've sold several sets to local farmers, including some of the CT's and ST's, all of which I have had good feedback on. Being that they're a little cheaper than the Toyo's, offer good quality, and have proven themselves (quite literally) in the field, I can't say anything negative about them, and only have positives to say about the current Cooper lineup.
