tire temp/pressure sensors

Anyone know where I can fine out info on tire temp/pressure sensors. I think that they attached to the inside of the rim/tire with big band style clamps and send info to the cab for readout.



Does anyone run these ( any brand)? How do u like them and are they worth it. I'm kinda mileage crazy and I'm always checking my tire psi and thought that this could make it easier.

I don't have any yet. But I called these folks and was impressed with them,over the phone at least.

Camping World sell some but,the last time I looked they only had a sensor that would warn you if the pressure dropped below a fixed figure. . not too good.

The smartire reads pressure and temperature. . Dick Martin,when I checked had a 'booster" antenna that would make them work from the trailer to the truck. . FWIW

I have both SmartTire systems described on the link above. They allow real-time readout of pressure and temperature for each tire.



I had heard of SmartTire, and did a web search for them, to find out info on the system when I initially bought it. A subsequent call to them yielded a referral to tirerack.com as a dealer, and that's where I got the Gen I system. The Gen II system came from either Quadratec or 4WD Hardware, I forget which.



I have the Gen I (called RV33 on the above listed link) system on my 5th wheel, and used it with my '98. I occasionally failed to get a signal from one or the other of the sensors, but overall it provided a lot of peace of mind.



I've installed the Gen II system in the truck tires of my '03, and also on my flatbed trailer. I just got back from a 4500 mile trip with that combination, and the truck part worked flawlessly (except for that 78 psi max reading limitation--but that's OK). For the flatbed tires, though, it was rare that I had a good signal from all four tires. Even so, it still saved me the cost of one tire. I noted a drop in pressure on one from 35 to 28 within 30 miles of starting out one morning. Sure enough, a few minutes later it alarmed and reported 5 psi. I was able to pull over, air back up, and limp to a tire store to get a bad valve stem replaced. Sure beats the arm waving as someone tries to tell you you're dragging a destroyed tire & rim behind you.



I hadn't gotten around to checking, but was hoping the Gen II receiver would work with the transmitters on my 5th-wheel. The FAQ at the above link says "no". I guess I'll have to run both receivers when I pull the 5th-wheel.
