I'm going to be lucky to get 15,000 miles from my wild country mud tires. Ok so its kinda my fault for buying mud tires cause they looked cool and I knew I was going to sled pull shortly after buying new treads. My problem is that I don't drive like a old fogey. My turbo may as well be spooled up as often as possible. I am looking for tires that can take a lot of punishment and last as long as possible(considering the driver). I like the way wider tires feel when cornering and cruising. I'm running 285-75-16s but need to get slightly wider wheels so the center tread doesn't wear so much faster than the outer tread. The next time I have to spend the coin for tires they HAVE TO LAST LONGER!!!!!! I would appreciate any recommendations. I have already had an "experience" with bridgestone/firestone, so they are not an option.

I just changed out my BFG M/T's. They were 305/70R-16 and they had 40k miles on them. Not counting the error in the odometer for the larger size. I could probably get another 5k out of them. However, I must be getting old, because I'm going for a smoother ride  . I would definitely consider them again if I return to a mud tire. I'm trying out the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos in 285/75R-16. They have been great on the Durango. We'll see how they perform on the Cummins.

Master 1578-

How hard is the tread of the bfg's? What is your driving style? I drive hard and aggressive. When I bought my wild country's, I didn't feel/squeeze the tread till after I started driving them around and thought they felt a little funny/squirley. The tire felt more like foam rubber than hard tire rubber, which is why they are wearing so bad. I'm thinking that an all terrain might be best since I am on highway almost exclusively(and have started towing frequently), but will go anywhere that I have to or want to. I also like to race people at stoplights and want to start drag racing. An all terrain will provide the best traction and wear for towing/racing/ect. right? If there is a tough long lasting mud tire I might be tempted again.

I don't recall the tread being too soft or spongy..... I just checked what's left of the tread. It seems pretty stiff to me. As far as driving style... . it depends on the situation. Most of my miles are highway. In fact I've only had the M/T's on for 14 mos. to get the 40k. Now that I have the Revo's on, I miss the look of the M/T's :{ . Although the smooth quiet ride is nice. I do like to try out the go pedal at a stop light on occasion. :D . I would assume that the all terrain would give you better traction on the road. Hope this helps.

member Y-Knot has some truxus mud tires that look awesome and are available in load range E. You could PM him and see how well they are holding up to wear. He has a dually.

Thanks

JAmos-

Are those Les Schwab tires? I thought they offered a mileage warrenty. You might want to look into that. I know you don't want to replace with same tires, but LS probably has some other options. Just a thought...

I'll bet you can double your mileage by using wider wheels. My brother has Wild Country 285's on 8" wheels on his 96. When he had them on stock wheels they wore the center out FAST. Now they are lasting longer. I think 8" wheels are the key to making a 285 last, and ride good. Tire/wheel assembly weight is also reduced with aluminum wheels...
