Tire wear on inside tires- 3500

Have a friend who's experiencing wear on the inside edge of the inner rear tires on his 2010 3500 4X4. He only uses it to tow his 34 foot horse trailer (gooseneck mount). Maybe he is over loading the axle? Don't know the trailer weight or ball weight yet. Will post when I find out.



Any thoughts?

How many miles on truck? is it 4wd?

Toe is probably off, thats the usual problem. Need to check the ball joints to make sure they ar enot walking out of the cups also.

Missed that important little item buried in the post.

Rear axle bent, bearings worn, or just plain over load. Wonder if it is both rears or just the inside\ outside pair or one side.

Is he riding on high crowned roads? years ago I worked with school buses here in ct. burned up inside tires tires 2 to1,they were leased tires paid by the mile. :-laf they didnt make much money on those inside ones. #@$%! just a thought,pete

A good alignment shop can check that out to see if the rear is not correct

I doubt he is overloaded or there is anything wrong with the truck or axle. He probably just needs to rotate his tires. If he isn't, all kinds of weird wear can show up.

Thanks everyone. His truck is 4WD and has 28K miles on the original General tires. Just the inner rears are cupping which makes me think his goose neck is too heavy. But wouldn't that make all 4 rear tires wear funny? Yeah he probably never rotated them either. I'm waiting to hear back from him on the trailer weight(s).

Another vote for crowned roads. A condition seen here on a regular basis.



Frequent rotation is the best defense.
