Air pressure in tires

I recently bought this truck (See Signature) and it has Michelin LTX M/S 235/85/16E tires on it. I have 36,000 miles on the truck. The spare is new and has never been on the ground. The two front tires have 70% of the tread left. The inside rears have 75% of the shoulder tread left and 50% of the middle tread (seems they were run with to much air). The outside rears are worn even with about 55% of the tread left. My plan for the winter so I will have the best traction (and later on not have to buy 6 new tires) is to buy one new Michelin LTX M/S 235/85/16E tire and mount it along with the new tire that was the spare on the front. Move the two tires that have about 70% tread left from the front to the rear too replace one of the sets that are on the rear. My question is what set of the above mentioned rear tires should I replace with the ones that I am moving from the front? I will be running empty 95% of the time so I planned on running 60# of air in the fronts and 45# of air in the rears, is this about right? Thanks for the guidance in advance.

Tire wear

I found over the years if I'm doing alot of country road running with a doolly, run 5 pounds of air less in the inside tires than the outside tires, and the wear will remain even on crown roads. The tire "experts" will tell you not to do this, but can give no good reason why. Try it I think it will work for you.

Thanks for the reply, called the tire dealer and going forward with my plan in the morning. From what I read on another thread I am going with 65# front and 50# rear.

It is great the information that you get on this site. I figure it just saved me some bucks. I went ahead and put my new spare tire on the front of my truck today and bought one new tire for the front. The tires on the rear have (per the tire dealer measurement) around 75 to 80% of the tread left. I'm running 65 lbs in the fronts and 50lbs in the rear (based on information from other threads and the fact that I will be running unloaded 95% of the time). Based on what I have read on TDR, I am good now for another 40K miles and then I will buy 2 or 4 new tires depending on wear. The air in my rear tires before this change was all over the place (found this out when I had the tires rotated) The way the valve stems were lined up before, I could not check the air in them, the tire dealer fixed that so I can now keep an eye on them. Before the change my rears had 70#'s in one tire 40# in another 60# in another and 55# in the forth one. If I would not of done something I would have had to buy 5 tires in the next 25K miles instead of the one I bought today. I want to thank you guys for this great forum and providing your knowledge and experence to this newbie.
