Burning up tires?

I recently drove from CA to Ohio and back for the Mopar Nats. Trip total was around 4600 miles. I towed a trailer weighing around 9000 lbs. My tires had around 3000 miles on them before I left. My rear tires look like I did a burnout all the way there? I must of had some wheel spin when getting on the Highway or ? Any thoughts?

Hey where is the spell check button?

Thanks

Steve

Hey Steve,

First off, you need to get the T-Rex. Call me 760 819-9551.....

With all the torque that truck of yours is making, the tires will burn off real fast. I know that the BFG's will burn up in 20,000 miles the way I drive. Pulling a trailer is a huge task for an off road tire. I see the same results in my wifes dually. Fronts will go 80,000 and rears are good for 35,000 miles. She is pulling a horse trailer every weekend loaded with at least 2 horses. Same weight as you... ...

On another note, I am trying to put together a trip from 29 Palms to Laughlin off road. I have a map and will pre run the route in Sept. I am looking for early November for the trip. Bikes , trucks and buggies will all be welcome.

Amazing, ain't it? When I had my 6 tires replaced at Goodyear this past week , the guy there was scratching his head trying to figure out why the back tires only had 1/2 the tread left the front tires did! Told the man "gee don't know ,they must be defective" :-laf :-laf

I've had the same thing. I just had tires rotated at 8k miles and the rears are worn way worse than the fronts. Tonight I was hauling a bucket loader and I had the windows down. I could hear the rear tires squeal on hard acceleration (I can't help myself, it's so much fun) If I hit a tar strip or irregularity in the paving. I was lucky to get that load moving with my 03 gasser and now I'm worried about burning up the rear tires. Ain't torque great?

Excessive tire wear

SO does anyone have any sugestions on what tire we could run for us who pull heavy trailers and don't want to spend $200 X 6 every 30K for new tires? I was out at Tirerack.com and they have some Dunlops in the 235-80/R17 size. Don't know what kind of miliage they might give on a pulling truck. Got nearly 60K pulling on my Wrangler RTS 245-75/R16 on my 97 pulling approximately the same load. I am very disappointed in the tries on the 03. I'd replace them with Michelins but they don't seem to make that size! Ken Irwin

I am pretty sure that Dunlop doesn't make a 235/80/17 I just looked on tirerack and didn't see what you are talking about. To the best of my research your choices remain Goodyear, General and Cooper. But they are all overpriced. If there was just a good choice in 19. 5 rims. I am estimating, based upon remaining tread on my Dual, that I will get approx 20k out of the Goodyears. And that is not enough, especially since I told my wife that we should get a dually to save on tires!!!

I will say that I looked at a used 03 when I was in the market, 36K miles on the clock. Tires were slicks!!! So I think that these last about 30k best case around these parts.

I just put six 235 80/ 17" Generals on my wifes Dually. $156. each. They seem to handle a load better than the Good fer a Year's but I only put a Backhoe and 8,000 lb trailer behind it. :D
