So I was checking out the tires on my 97 2500 this past weekend... I noticed a very strange uneaven wear on the front driver side tire. It has a very strange cupped/spotted wear on it. Wheel bearings feel tight, and so do ball joints. just curious if any others have experienced this... . for what it is worth, the right rear tire is wearing more as well... .

Maybe best to take it in to a dealer to diagnose? comments suggestions?

I'll try to post a pic..... the more research I do... it points to the shocks..... I've never done those on a truck..... are the tough to replace? What would be a recommendation for a decent shock... .

What tires do you have? Is your truck 2 or 4 wheel drive? How many miles do you have on your tires?

Cupping could be caused my many things. Obviously make sure all your linkages are tight. Are your tires wearing more on the inside or outside? If they are, it usually means the toe is out. If your bearings are going bad, they may also cause a little more wear on the inside of the tires. If your tires are wearing on every other lug, that usually means the belts are seperating in the tires. That is a very common problem with these trucks, due to their weight. This is more common with D rated tires than E rated.

If your truck has a limited slip rear, your right rear will always wear faster than your left. This is due to right turns being tighter than left. When you make a right turn, your right tire drags a little while your left tire tracks on the outside. Limited slips and lockers multiply the wear.
