Tired AC?

Ac works normal, but sometimes seems to stop working. I assume something is icing up cause it'll work again after resting and presumably thawing out.



Is there something simple I might clean out? The grill is mostly free of debris and only has minor denting to the fins from reaching in there and kicking it when standing on the bumper.

I have the same issue. Slowly the air will stop coming out of the vents. I assume it is freezing up because if I turn off AC when it does this and just let it blow air for a while, the air is kind of cold and it slowly starts blowing stronger again. Freezing up is typically a sign of low refrigerant but mine is fine as best I can tell.

My 03 AC quit working earlier this ear. It turned out to be a sensor that was reading a line pressure around 500- lbs. sensor cost around $100 plus labor. No problems since.

Have had mine do it too in humid conditions. I've found that adding an additional 2 oz of refrigerant to a full charge as per the decal under the hood solves this problem.

If you think you have a blend door problem, then I yield my time, but if you're seeing high pressures, check your fan clutch circuit. I had weak a/c and I found a green wire at the visitronic fan clutch plug. I checked the codes and sure enough I had a code. I had no light on. I repaired the wire and the code is gone and the frosty vents are back.

All systems lose some charge over time. sometimes other things catch up with you first such as have been mentioned above. But know this, one symptom of low charge is icing up if humidity is high enough. It would be hard to ice up in Arizona desert but in Alabama icing up is usually the indicator that you need to add some Freon. seems counter intuitive until you realize that the lower the charge, the lower the pressure on the low side of the pump, (suction side) and the lower the pressure the lower the boiling point of the Freon. the amount of charge is designed to make the evaporator as cool as possible without freezing the condensed water. Lose enough charge and the condensate begins to freeze and cut off the air flow.



Add some Freon if you are getting ice.
