If the seal needs replacing, this would be a good time to take the entire gear housing cover off and check the "killer dowel pin".
There are threads in this forum for dealing with the KDP.
Probably the most difficult part of the job is getting the fan off.
The fan nut is 36 mm and left hand thread.
Don't take the six bolts out of the fan hub until you get the fan off. I made a wrench to fit over them so that I could hold the hub while loosening the 36 mm nut. NAPA sells a wrench set for removing the fan but they want over $50.
The new seal is installed after the gear cover is back on the vehicle. Follow instructions that come with the new seal except instead of trying to hammer the seal in place, I screwed the vibration dampner in place to press it in. Worked fine.
If you just want to replace the seal, that shouldn't be so difficult.
The book says to remove the drive belt, remove the vibration dampner, drill two 1/8" holes in the old seal, put a #10 sheet metal screw in each hole and pull the seal with a slide hammer.
Follow instructions included with the new seal for installation then replace the vibration dampner and drive belt.
Sounds simple doesn't it?
Good Luck!
