Tried to program remote, now no lights or radio

I bought a couple extra keyless entry remotes off ebay since I only got 1 with my 98. 5. My friend had added a remote on his 97 since he didn't get any with his. So, we tried the procedure from his 97 shop book to add my new remotes, thinking it couldn't have changed too much in 1 year (yea, right).

We grounded the dark green wire on the computer connector under the dash, then turned the ignition to run and the door locks were supposed to cycle to let you know it's in program mode. The locks never cycled, so we figured the procedure must have changed.

On the way home I turned on the radio and got nothing. Tonight I realized I don't have any dome light, map light, cargo light. I checked all the fuses and they all are good.

What did I screw up??

FIXED!!!

I finally found the cause of this problem. . I know. . I said I checked all the fuses, but this one was under some kind of protective cover like it shouldn't ever be pulled. It actually took me a minute to figure out how to get the fuse out.

The fuse was labeled I. O. D. What the heck does that mean?

The fuse was blown and it took out my radio, dome light, map lights, cargo light, power mirrors and who knows what else. .

What is IOD?

IOD is Ignition Off Draw. This fuse the the factory leaves out and is installed by the dealer after delivery. This is the power feed to the computer, memory power for the radio and a few other things. Modern vehicles always draw power from the battery when the key is off. Doing it this way prevents dead batteries while the new vehicles are sitting in the dealers lot. You should also remove this fuse if storing the truck for a long period to protect the battery.
