Recently I purchased a 1992 D350 dually. I love this truck to death, but winter time is approaching and I need new tires. I went to the local tire shop and they said they could no longer get the tires for the truck since no one made 16. 5 tires anymore. Does anyone know if these tires are still made? Or is it possible to put rims from any of the newer trucks on mine and make it easier to get tires.

I don't know for sure , but I can't imagine that with as many trucks still on the road with 16. 5 wheels that they ( tire manufacturers ) would stop production of tires to fit.

16. 5 tires are still around. They're not as widely available as they used to be, however my local tire places can usually get me a set within a day. If you can't find any locally try tirerack.

How do the 235's fit on the rear duals? Is there any space between the tires? How much does the height of the tire change engine rpm's at for instance 60 mph? (4. 10 axle) If anyone knows I would appreciate the information.

Thanks, Ted

yes im sure the rims are stock, and yes im sure they are 16. 5s... i check with a neighbor who was a 91 dually and his rims are 16. 5s as well

alright, well i found a set of tires for the time being. but i would still like to know if anyone has put rims from one of the newer rims on their pre-94 truck, or if anyone knows of a kit to do so.

Mark, rims that are odd diameters such as 16. 5, 18. 5, or 22. 5 are really commercial size. In other words, they are primarily used in commercial trucks. Try your local commercial truck tire dealer. He should be able to get you a set of something. While not widely available, they are still around.

Stanbery- 2nd Genrims wotn fit- hole size is different, plus you have coin fit vs non coin fit.

I have never seen a 1st gen dually with 16. 5s on it stock. Granted, I've only had 6 of them, far from the 200K or so produced, but I'd think they'd keep them all the same. Check the door jamb and see what it says.

Texas Ted- 235s will work just fine. I've only had one dually with 215s, and I towed heavy with most of them from time to time.
