Refrigerant Question

I have a 7kgvw open car trailer that I two my 3400lb car on. It has 14 inch wheels, and the original tires from back in 97 when it was made.

They are starting to dry rot, and I'll either replace them this year, or next spring.

Any good online sources for tires? Radial or bias. It has bias on it now. I deal with tirerack.com often, but they don't sell trailer tires.

I'm not generally a fan of Goodyears but... ... ... . they seem to make a very good trailer specific tire, the Marathon. I would up-grade to 15 in rims, these can come off a Ford Ranger pick-up. The 15 in Marathons are radials, I don't think they make 14 in radial Marathon. I had Marathons on my open trailer and was plaesed with their perfomance and long life.

Trailer Tires

Hi, My friends and I all needed new trailer tires, last year, and I was elected to do the research. We all had the Marathon 205-75-15, load range C tires. I found the Marathon 225-75-15 l/r D tires fit beautifully. In doing my research, I found that Goodyear makes alot of the different named tires, out there. (Carlisle, Towmaster, etc. ) They all come off the same assembly line. But, the price is a lot different. I chose the Towmaster's at approx. $72. 00, ea. as opposed to $109. 00 ea. for the Goodyear's. Make sure they have the NYLON ply in the tread, along with the polyester and steel. The NYLON ply is what holds everything else together and keeps them from exploding when they get hot. My friend had 2 of the old style, w/o NYLON, blow-up on a trip. One was the spare, mounted on the rear bumper. Wasn't even on the ground! We are all real happy with the new Towmaster's. Hope this information helps. Joe F. , Phoenix, AZ.

Trailer Tires

Hi, I bought the Towmaster tires at Discount Tire, here in Phoenix. The company also goes by American Tire in other parts of the country. They may use other names, also. I understand they are one of the largest tire companies in the country. There are 4 or 5 of us that buy all of our tires from the manager of one of these stores and have been doing so for years. He always gives us what we think is a good deal. I always comparison shop before-hand and He is always the cheapest. We don't have any "special" connections with Discount Tire, just customer loyalty with this particular store manager. I just got my bill from the trailer to take a second look at what I paid and here is what it says. 5 ST 225/75-15/D Greenball Towmaster ST 70. 00 x5=350. 00. 5 State required Environmental Fee, 1. 40x5=7. 00, 5 Truck (shipping charges), 4. 25x5=21. 25. TAX, 30. 64. TOTAL 408. 89. He did not charge us for mounting & bal. My total, out of pocket expense, was 408. 89. I just noticed on my bill that they have a web-site "tires.com". I hope this helps. Other tire stores , in your area, should be able to get the Towmaster's, also. The name of the tire co. is Greenball Corp. , out of Long Beach, CA.
