Hey guys, with 32,000 miles on my truck its time to replace ALL the tires. Its Got the Original GoodYear's on it now, but I want to get a Great set of tires.

I use the truck primarily to drive back and forth to work and tow my race car in an enclosed trailer, but I would like to get a good All-Terrain tires for these snowy days we have here is SE Ohio.

What would you guys recommend? I would like to stay with the same size--235-85R16 as the original spare in case I have a problem out on the interstate.

Michelin XPS Traction

Just installed the tires Pit Bull suggests. We had our first significant snow two days ago..... love the new tires! These things are "supposed" to wear like steel, we'll see. Paid $230 per tire for mine. Can't remember what they retail for. My local Sam's didn't have this tire available when I bought mine. Good luck!

Ditto's on the XPS traction, I consistently got 80k out of a set of six by rotating every 10k. All while hotshotting and running heavy up to 35k gross with a 40ft gooseneck. Found that rotating fronts to the rear outside, outsides in, and insides to the front really helped keep the wear even. Also ran EQUAL powder as a balancer. JM . 02:D

Are there any other brands that would have the same Characteristics as the Michelin XPS Traction?

Michelin dealer in town is Jerk, and I am not a member of Sam's.

Thanks Guys!

Looks like I am going to take out another bank loan for

tires

(My wife doesn't like it when the tires squeal going around corners... )

No comparison to the Michelin LTX MS I had on my Landcruiser. The BFG AT/KO's are "real" snow tires :D They are noiser than the Michelin LTX MS's but on a CTD I doubt if you could hear any difference ;)

I tried the BFG AT KO's and they didn't hold a candle to the Michelin XPS. The XPS are made like a big truck tire and remain very flat resistant over the entire tread life. I only had one flat out of two sets 80k mi/set. The BFG's only lasted 40k and had 5 flats. Just my own experience under hard use.

That is why when I replace my stock Goodyears I am going with the Michelin XPS Tractions on my 3500 4x4. The BFG's have worked well on my 5000# Landcruiser, but my Truck weighs around 7500# with most of that over the 2 front tires. The BFG's are good tires and only cost around $130 on www.tirerack.com where the Michelin XPS Tractions that I will get cost 50% more. But it sounds like from your personal experence that the XPS Tractions will last 2 times longer. Sounds like a nobrainer to me. Bigger stronger safer tires cost 50% more up front but last twice as long. Don't get me wrong the BFG AT/KO's are great tires, just not in the same league as the XPS Tractions. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. ;)

I use Remington tires. The fronts on my truck right now have around 50k on them. A lot of this milage was with a bad front end also. These tires hold up very good. The rear tires have around 30k on them. I lost half the thread on them before I found out my rear axle was bent. I'll be replacing them very soon.

My thoughts on Michelin. Not on anything I drive.

Size wise I like 255/85/R16 they are 33" tall narrow enough

for a duelly and they look  I have used Cooper's and Dunlop's they are both good brand's and work good for sled pullin to. :D

I'm with Philip, no Michelins for me either. I can never over 30,000 miles with these tires. (Have tried different types). All I run now are BFG's. On my 3500 I run their Commercial tires. Last set was the All Weather tires. They lasted about 55,000 with no rotation, wore evenly, no problems. This set is the Commercial Traction model. Only been on a couple thousand miles. These are a little more noisy than the All Weather but can't be heard much over the motor over 35mph. We just got about 8" of snow here and I am very impressed with the traction of these tires.

I'd love to go to 255/85 but don't know which ones will fit on the 96 stock rims. Any help would be appreciated. Quit hotshottin' and only need to make one more long haul with all the worldly possessions. :D

pwknapp, I just looked at your truck profile and photo. That's a nice working truck you've put together. How do the chipped electron powered trucks do when you run together? I'm thinking Stokes, Chevys and our overvalves brothers.

My guess is you more than hold your own against the newer rigs.
