tires for sand

Hi, to everybody. I need some feedback about replacement tires. I still run original Michellin tires, not bad on highway, but because I do lot of trip to areas with sand, towing trailer with quads to the dunes, I'm thinking to put some tires which give me better grip in sand. Did you guys have any recommendations for good tires for sand and still not excessively noisy on highway ? Thanks

I take my truck out playing on the sand dunes regularly and I run BFG AT KO 285/75R16's. I get ~45,000 miles out of a set. Like all tires on the sand you have to air them down - I run 18 in the front, 12 in the rear at the dunes.

my goodyear at/s' are pretty good in sand on my tahoe [±6000lbs no driver] i have them in 285/75/16 up front and 305/70/16 in the rear. if you have the factory 16x8's you can run the 305/70 or the newer 315/70 [same height as a 295/75/16]

Check out the mickey thompson baja claw they work excellent in sand and also ride nice on the highway however wou probably wont get much more than 30-40 thousand miles before you need new tires.



these are going to be my next set of tires i have run them on my jeep for 2 years with nothing but great results.

I am with Steve on this one. I live in the desert and I run in the sand alot. I have been running BFG AT KO's for the last year and a half. I got stuck in the sand once, playing in the dunes at night after work. 65 psi of pressure and you will sink with any tire. Let the air out til they look like they are gonna blow a bead the have fun. I got stuck real bad once and my dad said to let them down to 4 psi. I drove out with out any help.

Thanks, I will check BFG AT KO and Thomson tires. But another Q. , I like to put 285/75-16 in place of the 265/75-16, but worry about dropping gear ratio to much. I do have 3. 54 now. Steve, what gear you're running on your truck ?

paddles man! all that torque needs a little grip. just make sure u get a good warrenty with them,,lol. I think there is a company in LA that melts paddles onto slicks at pretty good prices.
