why not considded 19. 5's. . cstly, but will last longer and do the job better. a taller more narrow tire with a less aggresive or more aggressive tread can be had. less side wall flex, more weight rating and a longer live. initial cost is up, but in my eyes well worth it in your case... .

I ain't heard of tire mileage like that!!!! 90,000 out of a set of OEM tires? :--) Must be some kind of record. I wore out two sets of BFGs by 63,000 miles and I take care of my truck, drive the speed limit, no digging out. My mileage (average 20 mpg) attests to how I drive and both sets were gone after 32K.

im HARD on my truck and still drive like the 26 year old kid i am... tires only last me 25k at the most.....

Ditto!! on the revos. I love mine. Good reading here also www.tirerack.com coobie. :)

Ditto! Ditto!! on the Revo's. Did a lot of research before I chose the Revo's and I am very happy with the results. I didn't want anything much bigger than the stock tires but I did want a more agressive tread and the reviews show the tire wears extreemly well.

One question I had about the 19. 5s is:

Since they are a stiffer sidewall and a harder compound, how do they fair in ice and snow... seems to me they would be slippery... similar to running a "E" rated tire at 80PSI.

cant say as i avoid ice and snow as much as possible. also i do not YET have my 19. 5's but am currently working with Brent from Brentzwheels.com to get a set made. (waiting on your tax doallars to hit my account, Re-Up Bonus)

i know the tread style and compounds are MUCH more varied compared to the different 17 inch tires in E rate and even D rate. there isnt much you cant buy in the end. thats another reason i like the 19. 5's. you can go anywhere and find a tire in a hurry. there isnt a major tire store who doesnt care 3 to 15 tire brands/tread styles in 19. 5

good luck finding a 17 inch E rate on the shelf in an oversize size. you might be able to find soem major and busy places with a 17 inch stock size at any given time.

MPGs and 19.5s

I can't say about mud and snow on my 19. 5s 'cause I just got 'em a month or two ago (regardless of what they say, it doesn't snow much in Colorado in July). Have to wait and see. The Hankook tread is aggressive and is 20/32nds deep.

All you fellers gettin' 90,000 miles or more outta OEMs must be drivin' 4x2s with a tailwind or something. I ain't never heard of nothing that high unless it was a commercial tire. That's why I bought 19. 5s, so I could get decent mileage.

The friends of mine. One 4x2 and TWO 4x4s have gotton 90k out of OEMS! One set of Generals and two of Michelins. All replaced OEM's with OEM's because of this. All tow 90% of the time. The 4x2 only did two tire rotations.

Maybe towing is the key then. That and highway miles. They got three times what I got, and as you can tell from my MPGs (20 average), I don't work my tires hard. But I do drive mountain roads that are 99 percent hard surface. No wonder they replaced OEMs with OEMs. So would I getting that kind of wear.

These guys are pulling from Ga. to New York,Kentucky,Tenn, etc. Lots of two lane, poor interstate, good roads etc. I think driving habits and there all sticklers on air psi. Up loaded, down unloaded etc. None have been aligned. Comments are BEST mileage I've EVER gotton on tires etc. Two pull tag a long cargo trailers the dually pulls a gooesneck. The dually has the Generals and he at first thought they would be done by 30 or 40k. WRONG. He said pretty darn good tires. Priced Cooper,Mastercraft etc. and found the same Generals the BEST price,so he got 6 new ones at 90k.

Well, DPK, I'm gonna go have a single malt scotch (Laphroaig brand, an Islay, in case anyone's interested) in honor of those guys. A toast will be comin' their way shawtly. As you pointed out ... "pretty darn good tires. "

I don't know what size tires are on the 17" rims, but Michelin website lists the LTX M/S LT235/80R17/E with a max load (for singles) as 3085@80 lbs. Rev's per mile are 654.

The 19. 5's work real well in slick conditions. I use them for snow plowing on the 04' and a ferd f-550. They grip better than oem tires. G124's on the 04' and general LMT-400's on the 550. Over 25,000 miles on the g124's and theres no measurable loss yet :D
