I've got about 45K on my 04 4x4 3500 dually... . and I'm looking for new tires...

235-80 R 17 or something close to that... . I've got Goodyears and to be honest there not going to go as far as my michlins on my 01... . I think they went almost 60K before we changed them off... ... .

I've read here but can't find the post that some of the trucks have the michlins on the..... s***... I can't spell... . doesn't look right.....

Any way I stopped at 2 of the more popular locations today and neither one had them... . They both had the 265 70 thats on the SRW application... and they look so wide that they will rub... .

I've been using the Firestone Flex Steel highway tire and getting close to 80K a set on the 01 and my Fords... . But its not available in the 17" that I can find... .

One of the dealers called michlin and they said they didn't make them.....

Would love some input on this.....

Thanks

Jim

So far as I know you have a choice of Good Year or Good Year. So far I am okay with the ones I have, although they are pricey as Good Year know they have the only tire. I sent DC a note telling them they should be more prudent in the choice of tires as I had a long wait to get replacements in early winter. All I got from them is that it was not their problem. I am hoping that some other rubber company will make this tire. I do like this profile for towing. I find them to be stable and so far no problems.

I've been running the 265 Michelins on my '03 DRW and have had no problems. Surprisingly, they still have a good space and do not rub at all. I have 60k on them and they still have alot of tread left. Hope this helps... . Good Luck

My 04. 5 DRW 4x4 came with General Ameri-Trac just so you know that they also make a 235-70-17 but ive never had good luck with General

Somewhere else in a post recently I read that Cooper tires is making a replacement in this size (235-80R17E), but their website didn't list them. Worth a call to a Cooper dealer, though.

Has anyone tried a 245-70R17E? Are these even available?

I was surprised also to find a total lack of tires for this truck. I've only got 13,000 miles on it and am religiously rotating them in hopes of extending their life (so hopefully more tires will come to market).

I'd love to go to 19. 5's on new wheels, but that'd be a lot less for bombing.

I just bought Vision 19. 5 wheels from Les Schwab with Toyo M-608z tires i think they look great and seem to run well too.

Went to Les Schwab in Grants Pass today and they had the Vision rims in stock. Nice 7. 5" wide Aluminum rims and rated for 4500 lbs each. Since I was concerned about weight but did not wish to alter the gearing I went with BFG 225 70 19. 5 14 ply tires. These are good for 3680 lbs each and are only about 1/2 inch larger diameter than stock.

I like the look of the Vision rims and the price was better than the steel Ricksons at just under $250. 00 each.

The only thing I don't care for is the offset of the rim. It's perfect if you are going to put some really big meat on and avoid clearance issues. However, with a 225 70 or 245 70 they are offset a little too far out.

For you guys that want to have a custom look and put some big rubber on these are a great option. Unlike steel rims which often suffer from run out issues, the aluminum rims are better balanced.

Pictures to follow, it was late when I got home.

The General Ameri*Trac TR's are available in the dually size now. I work at S&S Tire in Lexington, KY. and was able to convert a customer over and got him a set for his DRW truck and saved him about $347 for the set of six versus the Goodyears.
