Tires-How Big, How far off?

If you find yourself bored and in a helping mood, would someone please provide an answer for the following tire questions:



1. What is the largest tire (using stock rims) that can comfortably be put on my truck? (see sig for details) Without rubbing during turns that is.



2. I currently have 265/75/16's on. How far off will the speedo be if I put on 295/75/16's (I think the largest I can use) or how about 315/75/16's?



I found what I think is a decent price on BFG AT/KO's blemishes and want to go in knowledgable of what is or is not feasible.

Can't help with 295's

I can tell you that with 285's on my truck, when the speedo says 70mph I am moving at 73mph (verified with a GPS). Hope this helps you some. You shouldn't be off to much with the 295's, but with 315's it will be a noticable amount.



By the way, the 285's on my truck fit nicely with no mods. They get a little close a full lock if the suspension is compressed at all, but no rubbing that I can tell.

national 4wheel drives web site [in the fitment guide] says that the biggest that will fit stock is a 295/75/16 for the 2500's

315's with stock rims will rub on the arms at full lock. My truck stock came with 265's and I put on 315's..... speedo is off by 10% BTW, the rub is hardly an annoyance... nothing more. Oo.

I'm with Chipstein here-no problems other than the aforementioned control arm rub at full lock which doesn't hurt anything other than the factory paint on the arms!

Tire education

Great thanks for the replies. Are there any adverse effects if the 315/75/16's are mounted on a 3. 54 vehicle?

What I'm after.....

Eventually I'd like to get the vehicle to a point where it can light up the tires on demand so I'm thinking staying smaller is better (no larger than 265's) for around town driving. But for offroading I'd like to get another set of wheels (big and aggressive) I can swap to for fun trips in the mud/forests/etc. That's what I'm looking for in asking these questions. Of course this would happen after the warranty runs out



Oh, Chipstien and Jason do your trucks have mud flaps? I'm worried about the rub on those more than the control arm. I'd hate to rip those off from a rub and rip up the connection points to the fenders.

Speedometer error is different for different trucks. Beware of thinking your error is 3 mph when it could be 10!!! My truck with 285's is nearly 10% off, 67 indicated is 73 actual. My 6. 5" wheels do make the 285s a shade taller, but the error is different for different trucks. Dads 95 is dead on the money with 235/85/16's, some read low and some read high.



Just be careful, there are no blanket rules for speedometers. Get a GPS and check it on a long flat straight road.

Are the 315's too big to fit on the stock aluminum 8" rim? Does the tread roll over onto the sidewalls too much?



I have seen the 295's mounted on several trucks and really like the way they look. I am just of the opinion that bigger is always better Does anyone have any pics of their trucks running the 315's? Since the sock 265's are almost worn out it is time to look for new sneakers for the rig.
