The cupping is usually from bad balance or shocks.
Front tires with an aggressive tread pattern will get a slope in each tread block. Low at the rear of the tread block, higher in the front of the tread block when you are looking at the top of the tire. This is caused by caster (look at an old motorcycle front knobby tire). The caster would be increased when a load is put on the rear of the truck. That is one reason it is best to have an alignment done with the truck loaded the way you usually use it. Find an alignment shop with a pit for their alignment machine so you can get it aligned with your trailer connected if that is how most of the miles are put on the truck.
So if you are not going to rotate - a ribbed tire, like the XPS Rib, will last longer on the front, the rear too for that matter, just not as good traction.
