I had 33x12. 5 R16. 5 on my 93 W250. Perfect tire size, as far as I'm concerned. Of course, with that size I had to buy some nice chrome directional wheels, too.

You might consider a 255-85-16, a little fatter and a little bigger around. :)

I just put a set of 265-75-16's on my truck, I thought the 285's were just a bit too much.

Old Smoky, Do the 285's rub with stock wheel offset? Do you have a lift? I have the 255/85/16s in the Mud Terrain style and the noise is driving me nuts! I would like to go to a All Terrain style next. Any recomendations?

Stab, I'm surprised the BFG Muds are noisy enough to bother you over the Cummins. :) Are you running the older ones or the new KM's? Just a thought, because I'm running the new KM's and I can barely hear 'em. Supposedly, part of the KM change was noise reduction. If you like the Muds other than the noise, you might check out the new ones before switching to AT's.

Stab,

I am on my second set of 285's and have only rubbed about 5 times or so. When it does rub, it it's not bad at all. My springs have been re-arched, and I’ve got an add-a-leaf in the front end. I am running stock wheels off of a '97 Dodge. I can't remember what the backspacing is, or the width for that matter.

I had a set of Bridgestone Duelers A/Ts, and they where all right, but more or less suck in the winter IMHO. I now have Yokohoma Geolander A/Ts, and have been very happy with them. I can barely hear them with the windows down. I have yet to have them in the snow, but they have got to be better than the Duelers.

Yes, they are the older pre-KM Muds. The KMs are that much quieter? I will look into that before purchasing. I kind of wanted to go wider also this time. Fully realizing the traction will suffer. These Muds are awesome in the snow and mud we have here in Nebraska and hunting into Colorado. Maybe I should just go 285 Muds! It's just that I'm on pavement 90% of the time. But, the times I'm not, it's pretty gnarly. What to do???

Carolina, here's a picture of my truck with the 265's. They are a bit wider than stock 235-85's, but they are about the same diameter. Part of the reason I picked this size was the fact that two of the tires I took off were not that bad and I will use them as spares. I like to travel the back roads in Death Valley and my brother in law once had two flats within a mile... . not good.

These tires are Futura's from Pep Boys, they have a very aggresive tread and make alot of noise, come with a 40,000 mile warranty, and I had them installed for a few pennies over $520.

I am running 33X12. 5X16. 5. Got a little lift in the front to clear them. Its a good size until I hook onto a big load on my trailer then it hurts performance. Its a little wide too in large amounts of rain, tends to hydroplain sometimes. I think I will go to some 285/75R 16 swamper truxxus radials next time. They are 10 ply rated to 3700#. Go to www.intercotire.com.

Thanks, Old Smokey. Great pictures!

Do you have the advertised diameter?

Or do you know the actual diameter?
