Tires which size?

I still cannot decide what size tires to go with. I have the chrome mod 16. 5x9. 75 rims and a set of factory plain black 16x6 steel furd wheels. I put the 16s on yesterday "just one side" and thought that the 265x75s that were on them looked real small with the lift springs. I really want to get away from the 16. 5s though as there are not many choices for tires anylonger and it is only going to get worse. I would like to put 255x80x16 on it but am thinking they may be too narrow and look kind of funny. 285s are too wide for my 6" wheels or so I am told and I really need a 33" tire to fill the wheel wells.

If I had the cash I would just buy wheels and tires but that is not an option right now.

How about something to dress the black wheels up any ideas? Simulators maybe?

too many decisions and I am wanting to get these soon. So what are your thoughts?

I am currently running 235/85r16s on my truck with Ford 16x7 grey steel wheels with stock 1st gen hubcaps. It looks a bit too tall for the tires compared to the 35s, but it has a cool stock high-boy vibe about it. If you like the stock look, just use some 265/75s and get some hubcaps. If you like the wide tire look, get some more 33s. Either way, they are almost the same diameter just a completely different look.

Tires

I'm running LT 285 X 75R16 B. F. Goodrich All Terrain tires with the stock beauty rim's, hub cap's and suspension. Only trouble is when I turn tight and hit a bump they rub my mud flap's on the front. They could use a little lift. they fill the wheel well completely. What I really want is the stock size black wall tire's with gloss black rim's and the chrome stock hub cap's. No beauty rims. "Wha da ya think?"

I'm running 265/75 -16 on the stock steel rims with hub caps. No rubbing. I think they look like they belong there. Same diameter as the stock 235/85 but wider. Truck also handles much much better.

Thanks guys. I agree with you Mystery man the wide wheels and tires really can cause some problems with faster wear and straining componets.

I went ahead and ordered the 255/85R16 Truxus MTs today which is 33" tall and 9" wide. I like the look of the narrow tires on the older trucks. Plus it should help with the mpg too. I should get them mounted tommorrow. No I just need to find some hub caps or beauty rings somewhere. Any ideas?

Good Move on the tire size IMO. I have run BFG AT 285's on stock 6" rims and the tire wear has been uneven across the tread. I now run on a 7" rim. I live in Rock and Mud country and like the little bit of lift and they look really cool, but I will downsize next time. The extra width of the 285's also creates a handling issue in the snow or mud where you are trying to follow the trail of someone with standard size tires.



On the other hand, I have gone on some hairy trails and made it out!
