I have been looking at tires as well... we found that our 5er has 3100 lbs of hitch weight, and 9,200 lbs of axle weight which is almost even on the 2 axles based on how you stop the trailer on the scales...
We're taking off "trailer only" tires and going to a LT tire because of a recommendation from a coffee buddy who spent 25 years with Bridgestone as a factory rep... his theory is that the "trailer only" is not the quality tire of their LT tire... . and most of their trailer tires have a nylon based cord material to keep the cost down... . of course the nylon base will cause a cold tire thump... .
He shares that the LT tire is good for 4-6 years in the sun without care... we've chosen a size that will be 3042 per tire... 30. 5" diameter and will be a very close match to the trailer only tire we are removing... .
I've decided to go with a Michelin tire... . he wasn't happy, but had to comment that service away from home was very important and most independent tire dealers will "screw" an out of town customer, were someone who is part of a big chain might not...
I've personally used tires from Costco for the past 10 years with great success and great service out of town... . including Sunday when most tires shops are closed... so its back to Costco to order... .
