2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tires?

It's time to replace the tires on my 2001 Ram 3500 2WD with dual tires in the back. I would like to put a slightly larger tire on my truck. The originals are 235 X 85 X 16 inch tires. I would like to replace them with 245 X 75 X 16 inch tires. I have heard that you can't upgrade to this tire because of the rim only being 6" wide and I would meed a rim 6 1/2" wide to use these tires. There is also a concern about the sidewalls of the rear tires rubbing. I would be greatful for any help.

A 245x75 is actually shorter than the 235x85r16. The 235 is currently the largest 16in tire that can be dualled without tire rub. I have seen some applications on the '01 and '02 trucks that have the increased backspacing in the wheels(the 7 hole black steel wheels), where the 255/85r16 is used, but this tire size is limited and often different brands have different tread widths.



tire height formula: 245(aspect) x 75(ratio) x 2 = 36750/2540(constant)=14. 468 + 16= 30. 46 inches tall.



235x85x2=39950/2540=15. 72+16=31. 72inches tall. Basically a 7. 50/16.



255x85x2=43350/2540=17. 067+16=33. 067 inches tall. Basically a 33x9. 50x16



Custom wheels have been made, as well as dually adapters, that will accomodate larger tires. It's all about how much you're willing to spend and what you have to live with.
