I currently have on my '96 CTD, Goodyear Wrangler RTS 245/75/16LT tires. I am considering replacing them with Michelin LTX A/S 265/751216 load range E tires. Is this plan a good idea, or should I stick to the 245 width?

jphuffs,

Where's your signature? What type of driving, towing, hauling do you do? The 265's will look a lot better, and some folks feel the truck rides better. You'll loose a little power moving up to the 265's. You can't go wrong with the Michelins. Hope some of this helps. -Ken

JMHO, but since you are on the highway towing 80% of the time, you might want to consider the M/S series tires over the AT's.

The width is a non issue when discussing these two sizes, but the added height will help you lower your RPM's a bit. Empty it will definitely help your mileage, and with 4. 10 I don't think it will matter even towing 11k.

I would echo Cooker's comments, with your application go with the Michelin LTX M/S (I think that's right?) 265's. Have fun, -Ken

I think I should clarify my concern. I believe my '96 wheel width is 6 1/2" and the later model CTD trucks that are OEM with the 265 tire are 8" wide. If that is true, will the 6 1/2" wheel pinch the sidewall and cause uneven wearing of the 265 tread?

235/85R16E

The 235/85R16E are the same hight as the 265's but will like the skinny rims. Very good wear and ride.

I have very good luck with Toyo M55's.

I don't think you will have any problems with 265's. The MFG's remmended rim width is 7" so IMO 6. 5 should be fine. Besides, there are many TDR members running 285's on the 6. 5" rims. Or, as mentioned, if you are still concerned, the 235's will work great on the 6. 5" rim.
