Titan fuel tank install

I ordered up a 55 gallon midship replacement tank from Titan. Should be here this week. Their installation video and instructions while doesn't look to bad do seem to lack some info that may or may not be important or confusing I guess I will find that out when I get to it. I had my 2nd gen tank down many times over the years and could have it down and out in 20 minutes or less though after the first time I made a couple of mods that made that chore easier.
In any case anyone who has done this on a 4th gen have tips/tricks/things to watch for/advice?
Especially the fuel line connections, I know on my 2nd gen it took me close to an hour the first time to figure out how to get the dang things off.

I had a shop do it. IIRC, they charged around $200. Still have the OEM tank that I'd like to get rid of. I really like having the use of the bed and the extra fuel at the same time.

My OEM tank is out and my Titan will be going today. The hardest part so far was the electrical connection for the fuel pump. The pressure and return lines on the pump use a different style and I couldn't get the pressure side off easily so I just disconnected it from the fuel filter. It wasn't hard to pull one it was on the shop floor I just couldn't get pressure at the correct angle.

I did have an issue with their fuel pump retaining ring so they had to ship me one, and it got here today.

Otherwise pretty straight forward so far.

If all goes well I'll be dumping 5 gallons of diesel in it tonight and heading to the station to fill up for a leak test. I plan to add 5 gallons at a time and record the fuel level (%age on my CTS) for future reference.

Been fighting off the urge to take the plunge on a new Transfer Flow tank, being on telework has made the struggle real.

I have not crawled underneath to check to see what kind of access there is for removing the lines and connectors yet. Suppose I should do that before I tear into it. Just to see if I can contort myself properly. AH64ID good idea on the fuel line will remember that if I run into the same issue.

Will try and take pics. I know over the years I had a camera sitting there on many projects to document only to find the camera in same place I set it before I started without ever turning it on.

Well it's installed and FULL!!

I was wrong earlier, the worst part was getting the front strap in the frame... WOW that was a PITA. I ended up taking a lot of its preformed arc out to make it work. Then it went easy and reshaped itself as I tightened it.

If you're doing the work on the floor you will likley need to jack the rear of the truck up to get the stock tank out and the new tank in. Even with 4-5" under the rear tires I had to push it under the truck on it's side.


Pics to follow... but my initial measurements are that I lost 3" of ground clearance. I have the skid plate too. The bottom is very flat unlike the stock tank. It's not the lowest thing on the truck. The exhaust is lower, as are the running boards. Looking at the truck I was surprised it measured out to 3", I did notice that the left side was a little lower than the right as I just parked and didn't give the air suspension time to adjust... maybe it will bring the drivers side up a touch more.

I put 5 gallons in the truck and drove to the local fill station, 1.1 miles. It took 48.375 gallons until it clicked, and then another 3.192 until it was at the filler neck. So I have just over 56 gallons in the truck. I'll take it!

I did fill in 5 gallon increments and monitor tank %age. The sender reads 100% with 45 gallons of fuel in the tank. It reads 50% at about 20 gallons in the tank so it is "top heavy". I should have looked to see how hard it would be to add a longer arm to the OEM float but I didn't.

All in all I am happy I didn't pay for the install and it wasn't a bad job for 1 man.
