Lawmakers looking for a target

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or comments (good or bad) about the Titanium 5'er by Glendale RV. When I have been looking at them, they seem to be a quality unit and I am wondering if they really do tow easier than a "traditional looking" 5'er.

Too bad I can't find a used one if I decide to buy :(

Thanks,

Paul

We looked at them several times, they seem to be built extremely well, but the design and concept is fairly new so who knows... ... I personally like the look, seems like an awful lot went into them it would be a shame if they didn't pull better that the traditional units. They are pretty expensive coaches though.

MN Cummins Lvr,

I picked up my Titanium 28E33 in Memphis last month and am delighted with it. My towing mileage went from around 12 to 14+.

It's very well built with solid oak cabinets an a lot of nifty options.

The link below is our discussion group. We discuss everything from prices and dealer locations to problems which have been relatively few compared to other brands. The other links are the factory and a couple of dealers here in the south.

Warren,

Thanks for the info and the links. I received a price list from a dealership and the base price for the 24E29 (the one we're considering) is $27560 and the base price for the 28E33 is $33200. I assume these are the retail prices?

If and when we get closer to purchasing, I still need to :-{} with the dealer. We're planning on touring the factory in Strathroy, ON in June and hitting Thunder In Muncie on the way home.

Thanks Again,

Paul

John, The Memphis dealer is Davis Motorhome Mart.

Call Bill Hardy at 800-772-3414. He'll give you directions and answer any of your questions. He's a great guy and gave us a good deal and good service.

This is all I've seen recently about prices for that unit.

Walker RV- OKC says the MSRP is 48K

The sales manager says their actual (invoice?) is 38K

Without any heated negotiating:

Trailer cost $36,900

Hitch/brake controller installation - $425 – non slider hitch,

Tekonsha (sp) break controller.

You might want to consider a smaller trailer though. I have the same truck without the modifications, and after doing the numbers, regretfully went to a 28E33 in order to be legal. You will be considerably over your Max GVWR because the king pin weight will be between 1720 and 2400 depending on how much junk you throw in, and very close to max on your rear axles and springs unless you have upgraded them. The max for stock 245/16 E tires is 6160, springs 6200 and axles 6500. Your engine mods will pull it handily but stopping and stability may be a problem. The gurus on this forum recommend a 10,000 max GVWR trailer for a 2500. Good Luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about what the guru's think, unless your state is known to be a bear on such details. I've towed at 25,000+ gross combination weight, and wouldn't hesitate a heart beat to do it again. The truck is vastly underrated, and as well as it handles that much load, the casual observer will never guess that you are heavier than the little sticker in the door recommends. I would have an exhaust brake if I towed that heavy regularly, and I would make sure the trailer brakes were sized for the trailer weight.

My advice is worth exactly what you pay for it!

Glendale RV's

The Glendale RV's are very good quality units, fit and finish way above average.

We have the Glendale Golden Falcon 26RD just purchased last year that shares the same interior layout as the Titanium but is a conventional exterior layout.

We are very pleased with our unit.

So Paul, raising the bar for all of us, huh? It's just a matter of time now, you know. Once you start getting to the point of posting about stuff like this, you know it's inevitable that you'll be buying soon. :p :D You should be able to swing it once you sell off that VW. :p Maybe they'll take it in on trade!:D ;) :p

Hey, did you guys see how that Ford was sagging under the trailer on the website? Nice!:p

I dunno what you're talking about????? 10k?? I thought my truck was only rated at 8800, per the sticker on the door. Now, empty, it wieghs ~6500. 6500 + 2400 = 8900 right? That puts me at 100 lbs over max rated. I think I'll live.

edit: Oh, you said trailer gvwr, oh. Well it is less than 1500 over that LOADED TO THE MAX. Empty that is only just over 9k, that is a pretty light trailer considering its size. Oh I want one!!!

It seems that empty, it is just bearly below the max rating for my truck. I think that it would be ok.

Now, how to get 38k$. :( :{

I visited a trailer show in Kitchener, Ontario yesterday and there was a Titanium on display. According to the GVWR it was rated at 10,400 lb and I think it was about 28-30 feet in length. The cost I believe was about $46,000 (that's Canadian $$ eh?). At current exchange rates that makes it about US$29,000. It was extremely well made. Glendale also makes the Golden Falcon which I have and it was quite similar in fit and finish. I particularly liked the front storage compartment, accessible from the sides and the front. I think you could load so much in there you would probably exceed your pin weight.

dodger22,

That was a 29 footer you were looking at. Was that just a basic trailer, or did it have some options at that price? The kingpins are heavy on these trailers, because the bed and the storage under it are in front of the kingpin, and the wardrobes and huge basement strorage are right behind it.

Did it have the rear kitchen or the slide kitchen? The rear kitchen has a lot more possibilities for changing the pin weight by creative storage than the slide kitchen or the 28E33 that I have. There are two huge drawers under the seats of the dinette. I figure that you could store 150 lbs. of can goods in each, and they are about ten feet behind the center point of the wheels and you have floor to ceiling kitchen cabinets in the same area. Anything you stored in that area should balance a similar amount stored in the basement.

What I plan to do in May is upgrade my 245/16 tires on the truck to 265/16's and I've already added a leaf to my rear springs which gave me an additional 900 lbs. capacity there. The heavy duty rear axles are rated at 7500 lbs.

FYI

I saw one at the show in Houston just now. From looking at the outside it should pull very easily, the nose is shaped like it will catch very little wind. I just saw the outside and it was neat looking.

Fish - I think the kitchen was in the back but after you've seen so many units it all becomes a blur - that plus age!!!

I know what you mean about the drawers under the dinette. When I bought my unit I wanted the dinette changed to a free-standing table and chairs. The RV dealer pointed out how much storage there was under the dinette and he convinced me otherwise. Those drawers are filled so much its hard to open them sometimes!

Okie-Go,

Yeah, it goes through the air a good 2-3 mpg better than my old fiver!

dodger22,

Ginko Biloba taken twice a day will do wonders for the memory. I'm 68 now and my memory is a heck of lot better than it was when I started taking Ginko.

I looked for about a year before I saw a Titanium up in Canada and went to three Titanium dealers before I bought mine in Memphis. After I originally saw it, I didn't consider any other fiver.

How tall is the bed room portion of the 5ver?? Could a guy that is 6' 2" stand straigh up in there. The website does not have any pics of the living chamber. Is there enought room that one could squeeze in a king size bed if so inclined??
