I did one of those things your never suppose to do.

I purchased my 93 dodge ram 350 4x4 dually, with no Title!



I justified the buy do to the fact it only has 45,000 orginal miles, and i basically got a good deal for the price i paid.



However i decided i would like to put it on the road, but truck has never been titled, no records, no registration, never. It was a private land use truck only. I do retain a bill of sale to prove i own this truck, but that is it. I have gone through all the channels with the state and i am unable according to them to obtain a title, salvage, homemade, assembled, or otherwise.



Now I am looking for anyway to drive this truck on the street. Interested on anyones input, suggestions, etc...



Looking into any possiblilities, purchasing another titled truck, titled parts truck, titled in another state then retitling, anything, etc...

I have tried carfax and that other site that does the same, just to find out they have 0 entries for my vin.



I have never had this kind of problem before, but then again the best advice " Never buy a car without a title" comes in there.



But basically I could keep the motor part the rest out and still make money!



I really dont want to do that, this is the nicest rust free truck i have ever parted.

The truck had to be sold when it was new and I didn't think a dealer could sell a vehicle without a title whether it was going to be used on the road or not. Did you buy it from the original owner? What state did he buy it in?



Could it be a stolen vehicle?



Just a few thoughts here, but it sounds like you have a good find if the title can be worked out.

Have you tried calling a dealer to find any history from the VIN?



Not sure about NE but OR has an application at DMV to replace Lost Titles but it sounds like you checked in on that route. Why won't they let you title is like a new/first time purchased vehicle?

In Wyoming you can hold a vehicle lien auction (mechanics lien, storage lien) and sell the vehicle to yourself, at which time the county in which you do it in will issue a title in your name. This process does require a few months to accomplish, and you will have to advertise the auction in the paper. There are some other hoops to jump througn, but it worked for me when I titled and registered a 1953 Dodge M-37 which was a military vehicle, and previously had no title. I would suggest checking with the Albany or Laramie county clerks office to find out the details. PM me if you have any questions.

Find one that has been totalled and take the VIN from it and put your truck under that #. It will then get a salvage title. This has worked for me.

Just double check state laws before going thesalvaged route. The Insurance industry is coming down hard on the DOT for tighter and more stringent guidelines on slavaged vehicles and roadworthyness. Even tho you are just re asigning the vin (which will be close to impossible finding a 93 with your exact options laying arround somewhere). Check your state DMV and at the least if a title search is not available to you try a point of origin search from a dealer and then a new title can be drawn from there.

Best of luck! A friend of mine bought a truck like yours that had been repaired after delivery damage. Because the truck was damaged heavily during the delivery, Dodge never issued a title in the first place. The truck was supposed to be destroyed and salvaged, but was repaired and sold to my friend. The seller gave my friend a "dealer" tag to ride around on while he "did the paperwork" on the title (his story). Anyway, in time the DOT pulled him over during a routine stop and inquired about the dealer tag. They told him that an un-titled vehicle WILL NOT be driven on public roads. They cut him some slack and did not demand the truck be towed home. He tried the salvage route, but was unsuccessful. He won a lawsuit against the seller, but you can't get blood from a turnip. He has had to buy another truck since that time and uses the first truck on his farm only. I hope you get some satisfaction in the end.

Hmmm... being the state already knows you are trying to title the truck, further work with them my be useless. You could have come with a bill of sale from another state that does not use titles, i. e. New York, and then you could have filled out the form for a new Nebraska title. I think that this would have worked, but maybe someone else can tell you if this would work.



Broadway title is a good place, but they may be hung on the fact that an original title was not ever given. BUT, I do know that you can title a vehicle if you have gotten a statement of origin from an original issuing dealer. A dealership in my area sold a bunch of original untitled musclecars several years ago. It did not matter that they had no title for 25 years, but they issued the paperwork to get the first time titles for the first time owners. I know that this scenerio has happened elsewhere because I have heard of it before.



I work at a dealership, and I will ask if anything can be done. You should look in the owners manual for anything relating to the original dealership. You may have to follow a papertrail, as this truck could have been sold between dealerships before the first owner got it.



If you could find the original paperwork for this truck, you may be able to have the original dealership reissue the paperwork (they copy it and keep it on file so it should be there somewhere) to the original buying owner. Then he in turn would title it (at great cost as the state would assess the title fee % from the selling price). Iowa has a 5% fee, so 5% of $28k original sales contract price would be $1400, plus other fees and some late assessments. Then you would have to pay to title it to you. To title this truck this way may cost you $2000. But, I have seen these low mile 93s still bring $15-18k.



Does "private land use" refer to it being used privately off-road on-farm like a tractor? If it was a state or military truck, then the state issues a title after the vehicle has passed inspection for all safety and emission requirements. Once all that correct hardware has been installed and proven to work, then you are issued a form to take into the Dept of Motor Vehicles so you can get a title.



Best of luck with this endeavor. You will have use some patience and some brains, but should be able to get it titled.

I have been told by a couple of people who's reliability I consider high that here in Texas you can buy a vehicle without a title and apply for one. I do see vehicles listed for sale that state no title often. I have no personal experience with that and dont know if it could help you or not but wanted to pass it on. Good luck.

The piece of paperwork you need is called a "Statement of Origin". It is an official piece of paper from the manufacturer certifying that they made it and it exists. If the truck was never titled, it was either given to the owner or is still sitting in the deal folder at the dealership the truck was purchased from when new.



I'd start with the owner and then hit the dealership. Your best bet at the dealership is to go in with the delivery date to minimize their hassle. Be charming.

Yes thats it Ex1 "Statement of Origin" but we are on the same page anyways.

Dont know if this helps, but......

My parents have a place in Maine. They tell me that they dont want to see any title if it's over 8 or 10 (dont remember exactly) years old.

Maybe one of your neighboring states have a similar law?

If you have any friends at a dealer that have access to the Dials system (Chrysler's satellite info system) they can pull an item that may help. Ask for a vehicle/warranty history, it should list the original invoiced dealer and at least the first registered owner. I don't remember the exact name but we used to have to get them all the time to verify what warranty coverage a customer had back in the days when you could get 7/70 or 3/36.



At the college where I teach we have about a dozen GM,Ford and Chrysler vehicles that have been donated for training purposes. They can't be titled or driven on public roads. When we get rid of them we dismatle them and send the parts to a salvage yard or re-donate to an area high school auto program. Hopefully it's not one of these that "escaped" as the VIN #'s have been "scrapped" by the manufacturer.

That's right wtrenholm. I remember lots of "nice" vehicles donated to a technical college I attended. Most of them got there because of shipping damage or other recall related problems. Why fix them if the manufacturer could write it off as a donation. The vehicles were always cut up into pieces if they were no longer needed, i. e. too old and not new enough to train on. I guess if it "escaped", then someone got free use of a really nice truck.

I am going to look at the dealship sometime this week or next.

I have heard about states without titles, Maine is 10 yrs I believe.

The broadway title company only does 1986 and older vehicles.

I will keep that in mind if i have this problem again. hopefully not!



I am almost positive it was not a donated truck, it does show signs of work, I also had to unload about 10lbs of mud from the frame. I am looking for local colleges that might have some extra parts for other vehicles, they might donate to me.



On the statement of origin, is that what you recieve when you first purchase a vehicle from the dealship?

I have never bought a brand spankin new truck, but I was told the dealership has this statement paperwork and sometimes sell them with a title?



I am looking into the salvage route currently and is some trouble with vechicle inspection stuff, plus I would come close to spending the same amount for a salvage truck as I paid for mine, but still be way ahead of what it is worth.



I think I will endup putting it in storage, cause winter is here and it seems like it might take alittle longer to work this out then i expected.
