Speaking of pumpkin launching, saw I program on the Travel Channel about a pumpkin launching competition that takes place yearly in the south east. Some of the launchers have barrels over 40 ft long powered by diesel air compressors, the record launch is well over a mile. For the target shooting part of the competition the target is a VW van, pretty amazing how much damage a pumpkin can do to a VW.

The competiton takes place in Lower Delaware (Slower Delaware) Sussex Country the first weekend after Halloween. Check out: http://www.punkinchunkin.com/

Some of the toys would make Gerald Bull proud.

7-14?! It keeps this 43 year old kid happy!!

Yeah, you're right. The show would suck if they did not finish a project due to lack of parts.

There's probably a NAPA and a Home Depot around the corner.

It,s a prety good show as long as you don,t take it too serious. If i had one of those magical junkyards like that, where you always find what you need i would never have to go to town for parts.

Joe. . Hazel even reminded me of some of the "quality " rigs I fished by at the foot of [damnn I forgot the street name] the one with the old fish packing house/food place now a tourest trap. . oh well getting old I guess... but that was a long time ago guess about 45+ years as I was about 10

Gary, Lazio's (the old tourist trap) burned down. They had great food there. One night we ate dinner at a table next to Bill Russel. We talked a little and I didn't let on that I knew who he was. Really nice guy. The team captain for the Hot Hazel tonight was Duane Flatmo. He always has something really outlandish in the kinetic sculpture race, Humboldt County's idea of a Memorial Day weekend race. Average speed of the winner is usually something like 10MPD (miles per day).

Wow! Can you believe that these guys found a BMW R80 motorcycle in running condition in a junk yard? Is this show rigged or what?

Not one, but 2 VW Bugs! Smash out the back window of some car on the lot, and there's a propeller!

It's not just a junkyard, it's a Magic Junkyard!!!!

But it's still good entertainment and shows some real inovation, skill and talent.

It's got to be better than some of the new 'Survivor' shows that the networks are pushing.

For lack of a second outrigger...
But I did LOVE the fact they were using a Diesel engine in the Barrel Boat. Should have had the passenger sitting on the outrigger.
In Thailand I saw boats that had Automobile engines, with transmission, on a long boom. the boom went well behind the boat to the propeller. You could shift into reverse to go backwards, and the boom shifted side to side to steer.

I agree Craig, that 4 cylinder diesel pushed the barrel boat along at a good clip. They would have won the race easily if they just could have found another outrigger.

That VW body didn't look like it was in that bad of shape. It would have made a good restoration project. The VW guys must have cringed seeing it getting cut up.

Did anyone get a kick out of when the barrel boat went to turn and it flippped? I was laughing... . big time #ad

Yeah, Rich. It's just a stage set. Kinda dirty, but's that no real junk yard. I was amazed that both boat building teams last week were able to find propellers and shafts with just the right size and taper for the propellers. Yeah right! #ad

It's still a fun show and the imgagination in makeing some of those things is great. #ad

"Stain Maker"

Powered by a 'tweaked' 5. 9 liter Cummins Diesel.
6 wheel drive chassis.
Primary weapon: A fly swatter. 8' I beam with a 4'x4' swatter made out of the steel mat used in some demolition.

Turns the competion into a 'stain' on the floor.

Vroom... spalt!

Now that's entertainment!

I was impressed when that guy cut a propeller from a 2x6. He used a calculator to find the correct angles. Probably complicated algebraic theorems.

Impressive #ad
