Sooo... the hemi guys with 03 trucks are just cutting the Yellow/Green wire coming off the TCM and that it the TM sense wire. .

Seeing as I do not have any auto... . Do our 03 diesel/auto's have this TCM?

I think it the only Yellow/Green wire coming from it

BTW - Sorry if this is old news and does not work

Torq management

Tomey,

So is that the speed limiter disconnect? If yes, does it shut down any dash functions? If it is the speed limiter then why not a toggle to re-enable it for the 99. 9% that your not running b. lls to the walls??

sounds interesting ...

if it's just a speed limiter i don't care, but if it'll give me more down low ;)

Tommygun can you give me the exact location of the harness and wire ...

hmmmmmmmm ...

I just looked and although there is plenty of info on the TCM there is no wiring schematic for it hmmm... . It states that the TCM has a TQ managment request and a TQ managment acknowledge...

Some examples of indirect inputs to the TCM are:

Engine/Body Identification

Manifold Pressure

Target Idle

Torque Reduction Confirmation

Engine Coolant Temperature

Ambient/Battery Temperature

Scan Tool Communication

Some examples of TCM direct outputs are:

Transmission Control Relay

Solenoids

Torque Reduction Request

I just saw something from BD that's supposed to get rid of the factory torque management, and remove top speed limiter. .

OK guys i had an 03 hemi 2500 4x4 qc swb before i traded it on my cummins. The TMR wire on the 545re transmission reduced fuel and timing to prevent transmission damage and greatly slowed the shifts between gears. Does nothing for speed It just cuts the signal from the transmission requesting the ECM to reduce power between shifts. Guys were gaining . 1-. 2 in the 1/4 mile with this mod and I will check on the wiring for an 03 and 05 since I have those manuals downloaded.

Ok I just finished searching the wiring diagrams for the 05 and 03 Ram trucks and the torque request was only for the hemi motors with the 545 rfe transmission in 03. 04 they intergrated that control module into the PCM. The RFE trannies dont even have bands in them like the 48re. Its all electronically controlled with clutch packs controlled by electronic servo motors to engage different gears followed by line pressures to hold them into that gear. If I drove my 03 I could hear the servos clicking when gears changed. Of course I just pulled my wire out of the PCM so I could have full power all the time but it definitely took it toll after 40k miles of pounding the crap out of it. If you guys think the 48re is a slush box drive a hemi with the 545rfe. It shifts smooth but at every shift it falls flat on its face until the gear fully engages then its back to pulling . I may have missed something but I really dont think this applies to the 48re since it is still not completely controlled by a computer.

the TQ man. and top speed limiter are diffenet wires. The top speed is cut and spliced and the BD box just puts a zenier diode to drop ground off extra voltage after 90 mph, (i believe) The truck keeps going but speedometer hit at 90 and stays. The TQ man. is done with a switch on the BD box and cuts all instrument power off. On the dyno i lost 20HP by using the switch. I need to check the times at the track with the switch off and see waht happens. I can't tell a differene with it on or off, but the top end power is nice. I need to check the voltage and see where it stops at. With the right Zenior diode, you could have a top MPH fix for under $10.

My Vette has torque management and it can be selected off with a hypertech programmer or similar DL'r. I wish someone in the aftermarket would give us more freedom with the ECM's. The technology is out there and has been in use by the Chevy guys for years now yet everything available for the CTD's ECM is severly limited as to what you can change.

I believe that there is a difference with how the torque management for the 48re is handled between the 03-04 and the 04. 5 and up. I talked with BD about their box, they told me that for the 04. 5 they are not able to do anything about the Torque Management yet, only speed limiter. They seem to be able to disable it for the 03-04 48re trucks. I also tried the key trick to disable the torque management, it actually may work on some trucks. I was able a couple of times to get the key back the half notch or so and stay running. Speedo and gauges dead, but truck running. I think when I do this that my FASS also quits working, not sure. But just chicken to try any hard WOT with it that way.

I am pretty sure the 6 speeds are torque managed. first thing in the morning when i back out of my spot and cut my wheels full left, i have to give it extra throttle or it will stall, which i do about twice a week. and thats taking off in second gear

My '04 SO gets a code all the time of P1740. If you look it up it has something to do with TQ Management. I called ATS and they told me not to worry about it. It's happing on the SO trucks only. And to clear it I have to take it to the dealer because it's an emmissions thing. It eventually went away the first time. But I do have it right now. Am I talking about the same things you guys are talking about? Does BD have a fix? I didn't even know there was one. How can I clear the code right now without taking it to the dealer?

My SRT quad cab has the 48re transmission in it as well. The torque mgt is in the PCM and there are a couple of reflashes out that do away with the torque mgt and a couple other things. Makes a huge difference in power delivery. I have no idea if this flash will work on a diesel truck but B&G Chrysler developed the first one and if there is enough interest I'm sure they'd try to make one for the Cummins trucks. Mopar also has a reflash out... maybe they'll develop one for the Cummins trucks too
