I have a major service interval coming up and thought it would be a good time to install some Mag Hytec diff covers and a new trans pan. My dilemma is whether or not to go with the huge capacity of the double deep pan.
I live in Western Canada where it can get pretty chilly at times (think -30). But I also tow my 5th in Texas while working. I like the idea of the extra trans fluid when towing, but my towing is not what I would call extreme. My trailer is only around 11000 pounds, and my towing works out to around 39. 46% of my mileage for the year.
Will the double deep be a hindrance if I'm not towing and the ambient temp is way low? I had heard somewhere that the trans does need to warm up to some level in order to work properly. Will all that extra fluid keep things from warming up to the necessary operating temps at 30 below?
Thanks for any and all input.
