Trailer electrical problem

Best campground @ Moab

I have a major service interval coming up and thought it would be a good time to install some Mag Hytec diff covers and a new trans pan. My dilemma is whether or not to go with the huge capacity of the double deep pan.

I live in Western Canada where it can get pretty chilly at times (think -30). But I also tow my 5th in Texas while working. I like the idea of the extra trans fluid when towing, but my towing is not what I would call extreme. My trailer is only around 11000 pounds, and my towing works out to around 39. 46% of my mileage for the year.

Will the double deep be a hindrance if I'm not towing and the ambient temp is way low? I had heard somewhere that the trans does need to warm up to some level in order to work properly. Will all that extra fluid keep things from warming up to the necessary operating temps at 30 below?

Thanks for any and all input.

Even with a stock pan, temps usually stay really low... so if it isn't a problem in a stock pan at cold, I doubt it would make much difference.

I think the factory cooler does a pretty good job at keeping temps down, more than a transmission pan probably would.

IIRC the trans needs some warmth to keep from "gumming up".

If you have a temp gauge, and all seems OK, I'd leave it alone unless youre really running it hard.

Thanks guys.

Guess I can take the cash earmarked for the trans pan and put it towards the driving lights I want.

Hey Axion, I'm just south of you in Calgary. I have the double deep pan and have no problems in the winter. I do run full synthetic trans fluid thought to keep things smooth. I'll refrain from any Calgary vs Edmonton jokes though... ... ... ... :-laf... ... Well ok just one, The NHL is taking the Flames away from Calgary, apparently if Edmonton can't have a professional hockey team, we can't either!!!!! Oo.
