Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) To dyno or not?

Just a quick question for you horsepower folks... . (jealousy will get me no where). Given my mods what kinda power do you think I am making and would it be worth it to go to the Nor Cal dyno day? I don't want to take up space if there are a lot of high power guys there to watch. I will have a mystery switch installed by then. . so what do ya all think? I will be going to watch regardless if I run or not

I am also going to the Nor Cal winter dyno day. It is a good idea to go ahead and get on the dyno. Then you know where you are at. That way when you add more mods you can find out how much they helped. The sign up sheet is now on there web site.

I say go for it.

Hi, I went to dyno day in Redding last summer. I had been told by my pump rebuilder that I probably was getting around 225, so that is what I was telling everyone who asked--I dyno'ed 179 rwhp and I was very embarrased, but noone said anything mean. I was the lowest hp there that night, but it was fun watching everybody else (some who smoked so much that the exhaust fan couldn't extract it and the bay filled up with black smoke)! BTW when/where is the Nor Cal dyno day you guys are going to?

I agree, put your truck on the Dyno you won't be wondering anymore about your horsepower It's too bad you didn't put it on the rollers before you started your mods, but at least you'll have a base line for any future mods.....

rsaderlund, I agree with everyone here. I had my truck dyno-ed to get a baseline before I made any improvements. dtygart, I posted a whopping 132 H. P. when my truck was stock! Can anyone here beat that low number? I hope not, not that that is a feat to be proud of.

You are absolutely right! I have since moved my H. P. numbers above 300 at the rear wheels. I like to show the stock graph and then the current graph. Brings a smile everytime!

That is a beautiful area. I travel alot and South Alabama is as beautiful as anywhere. Mobile is where Mardi Gras started, so I'm told. You should plan time to see the battleship Alabama. Also, plan a day to drive South from Daphne along the Mobile Bay.

My '94 was 139hp - pretty much bone stock.



I played with the pump and got 271hp/671ft-lbs with all stock parts.



I encourage everyone to dyno - like what has been said a few times... you gotta start somewhere.

Well i signed up at least i will know what it puts out. There is going to be a lot of rigs there poeple around there are going to wounder what the hell is going on :-laf . Ronco, Me and my girl freind went down there in September right after the Big hurricane hit we were going to go to Gulf Shores . That hole area was beat up . I remember hearing about the history alot of poeple don,t now about the other places that do Madi Gras . I have been to New Orleans Madi Gras and it is a little to crowed for my taste i perfer to go there off season . Bkenny

If you're going to dyno to establish a baseline before adding bombs, and want to check your progress as you uprate, try to find a dyno you can access easily (i. e. near by and available). You'll want to use the same one. Different dynos (brands, models) will often give different readings on the same truck, and that will just confuse you.



On the other hand, once you got something to show off, go to the events and get on the dyno. It's great fun. Then you're comparing your rig with others on the same "playing field".
