To Leather or Not To Leather?

I love all the things that are in the SLT+ package except I'm not sure about the leather. It seems that most guys opt not to have it (do they get SLT package an add other options OR SLT+ minus leather?)
I do have passengers often an sometimes someone else drives my truck(rarely).
Is the leather durable? Sure is sweet looking

We got leather in my wife's Durango and I had never even considered owning a car with leather. It made so much of a difference that my next truck will have leather. My advice since you asked is get the leather.

I have the cloth and like it jut fine. I saw a dually at a meeting in Houston that had leather seats. Sharp lookin and the ram head emblem was nice. If I special order next truck I may consider. I would be afraid they would be too hot in the Texas summer.

JRG, I haven't had leather since my new Vette in 81, then I got the leather after two Cummins without it and let me tell ya, I do like the leather!!!!! What is really nice is the heaters in them, the wife or girlfriend or both #ad

The leather is a good choice if you don't have a dog or cat riding in the cab. And remember to maintain them every 6 months so the leather doesn't dry out. Heated seat, can't wait to get my new truck, but probably wont test the heat till next winter

The only leather I have had before this was in a '76 Vette. I really like the leather. It is not as hot in the summer as one would expect and the heat in the winter is really nice. It makes for a classy interior and doesn't require but a little care now and then. I have had several people comment that the interior of my truck looks like a Lexus! I recommend the leather whether you get the SLT and add the leather or go with the SLT+ package as I did.

I chose not to get the leather. For me it was a simple matter of cost. It wasn't worth the extra $1,600. If you prefer the leather over the cloth and it fits your budget then go for it.

I have leather in my current 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, which is being replaced by the new truck. In my Jeep, Chrysler uses really cheep leather, and I am not at all impresed with it, although they do use a higher quality leather in the Grand Cherokee Limited. The leather in my wife's Saturn is much higher quality than my Jeep. Also note that the rear seat (Quad Cab) is vinyl, not leather. If they would sell the SLT+ w/o the leather I might have considered it.

I wasn't going to go against the grain (pun intended) until I saw klenger step up. $1600 is way too much for a very low quality hide, and vinyl on the back seat. The only "leather" is on the seating surfaces, the sides and backs are vinyl too.

I ordered my truck with the ST vinyl and will have a local upholestry guy install a high grade analine interior for about $1600... . all surfaces.

I will admit that the SLT+ hides are higher quality than just the separate "leather" package hides, but they are truly a low-end quality.

Hope no one is offended.

I always wanted leather seats, I got them in this truck... . I will never have cloth again.
About a month ago my son and I went for a airplane ride with a friend, what fun! banks,stalls, no loops! Hopped into the truck to come home..... you guessed it! PUKED ALL OVER THE PLACE... REPEATEDLY! what a mess I thought for sure it would not clean.
We got home and I tossed the mat out,scooped the big chunks up, got the shop vac and some of the wife's carpet shampoo and went to work!... Leather treatment... . disenfect... . air out... You cannot tell it ever happened... Leather is great!

Hey go for it! (leather) My truck is the first automobile that I have owned with leather and I love it. One thing nice on the SLT plus is that both seats are full power. Makes it nice for my back when my wife drives on long trips. If you go leather, I'd go with the Agate color. It stays clean looking. My $. 02... Chris

I think the leather is plush looking and really impresses people. I felt a little inadequate in my '97 with manually adjusted cloth seats.

Got leather in my 99 and am not unhappy, however I think my 97 was a little more comfy. My wife *****es about leather, cold in the winter (no heated seats) and hot in the summer. I like the looks of the leather a lot better, and find both comfy.

Next truck I will lean towards cloth but will settle for leather if other factors such as availability prevail.

I haven't had the opportunity to try out the leather seats in the 2001 Ram. It's been my experience that unless the leather is of high quality along with what ever they use as cushioning material, they are not as comfortable as the cloth seats. The Grand Cherokee seems to have very comfortable leather seats. Has anyone compared the comfort factor between cloth and leather?

Hotel6, I got the leather in our Trooper because of our dogs! Leather is MUCH easier to keep clean and hair-free than cloth. My girl beagle Maggie manufactures hair like you've never seen, and the hairballs just wipe right off! #ad
