My left rear axle has just started leaking at 56k miles. The front pinion started leaking at 40k and has had two seals put in. There is just no reason. I even miked the yoke, every thing is good change different fluid levels. I guess it is just going to leak. The rear main started at 25k. I had asked dealers about warranty and all dealers with in a 100 miles tell me their lifts wont pick it up a truck that big. The dealers are probably as useless as the engineers who came up with these good ideas. #@$%! Has anybody dealt with axle seals problems?

I own a shop, and I don't like these nonsense repairs on my own truck, thats why I bought a nice one. oh-yeah replaced ujoints at 40 k. We are getting ready to start a project truck and having second thoughts about using a dodge.

Are you positive the leak is the rear main?

your truck should have the improved rear main seal, I thought my rear main was leaking but it was coming from the input shaft on my trans

I'd bet Dodge would love to hear about the fact that their own dealers are unable/unwilling to service your vehicle under warranty. I'd look into some legal action on this one... If they are unable to give satisfaction on a warranty, you may have significant legal rights.

I am not sure it is the rear main but I think it is engine oil. Its not dripping yet but you can wipe it off the bottom of the bell housing, it is about to. I am thinking about changing the clutch any ways. With the sjr set on #2 and a big load, I can feal the clutch about to let lose.

I owen a shop and asked the dealers to just give me the parts under warranty with no luck. They keep telling me they are checking. I dont really have the time to fit with them.

DGamelin,

I'm betting it's not the rear main either. More likely collected from the breather tube and/or a slight coolent leak. I thought my rear main was starting to leak... turned out to be the water pump seeping, running down and along the block collecting dirt and oil on the way and collecting on the bottom of the bell housing. Didn't look like coolent at all! I put a vented capture bottle on the breather hose and replaced the water pump and everything is staying dry. I drain the capture bottle every 10K (with each fuel filter change) and get about 1/2 inch of oily water in the bottom of the 1 1/2 inch diameter capture bottle (old pill bottle, with 5/8 inch hole in the lid for the breather hose and small holes around the big hole as vents. Small cable tie on vent hose under the pill lid keeps it from falling off. )

Well I replaced the rear axle seal today, The seal looked great it had metal filings in the lip of the seal. I guessed the filings got in the seal and held it open just enough to leak. So when I was done I took the rear cove off to see where the filings came from. and the spider gear are busted up, the carer is junk. For 56k miles this is a joke, if I was being paid to work on this truck I could make a living on it alone. Does anybody know if there is a after market posi?
