I installed the Edge Comp box a couple days ago, but did not pierce the pump wire. I was getting ready to do that, but then read a thread about the VP44 failing and I picked-up that piercing the wire could cause the VP44 to fail within about 20 minutes.

Any comments or suggestions on piercing or not piercing??

thanks

The only ones that i heard of doing it was the firstones in 98. 5. Haven't heard of anymore doing it. I'm sure someone else will chime in here and let us know if any others besides the 98. 5 doing it.

Do what I did, if your truck is under warranty buy the blue chip cover for 50 bucks and if the VP dies replace stock cover and take it in.

Never mind I just saw your mileage. My bad... ... ... ..... just do it.

Just do it!:D I haven't heard of any 2001 truck eating the VP after piercing the pump wire. What I mean by that is, immediate death like on the early 24 valves. I very well could be wrong but I haven't heard of it. My VP is running strong at 98,000 miles, 56,000 of those miles with the comp installed.

I wouldn't worry about toasting the VP from tapping the wire. However, I would worry about toasting the VP from inadequate fuel and not knowing about the inadequate fuel because of a lack of a FP gauge. Then there'd be that slippy-slippy problem in the transmission to worry about, too.

I think you'd be better off in the long run by doing the planned mods in your sig (FASS & transmission mods) before you violate the pump wire. Then you'd be good to go for a set of injectors and a new turbo, too!

I pierced the 'wire' but then my VP44 lasted about 10k, as I remember and I only set it 5x5 a few times.

I'm afraid to pierce my new VP44 'wire' as I now have over 40k trouble free high fuel milage miles on it(23mpg's freeway on a 1x3 setting) and also no quarrel with Fords or Chevys. I guess I've lost my desire to race since losing Nowel.

It took Rod at Wildcat some time to convince me to just do it... but I did. I pierced the wire in my PM3 hookup and sat letting it idle for about 15mins and then very gingerly drove it for a few minutes before I was convinced it would be ok. I was told that if it didn't go belly-up in the first few minutes that it should be ok. I've got about 3k on the truck since the PM3 has been installed and I am now running Mach 2 injectors -- so far so good... .
