I found the following text at: http://members.fortunecity.com/billegates/Engines.html

"Why do the C series engine require a coolant filter while the B series engine needs none?

The answer is that the C series engines used Cast Iron engine liners, (wet cylinder wall sleeves), the B series engines have bored engine blocks. The C series engines can be fully rebuilt in place by replacing the sleeves. The B series engine must be removed and sent out for the boring of the cylinder walls. 5/2001 James"

What gives?? I thought I had sleeves in my engine?

Matt,

These B series engines are parent bore engines, that is, no sleeves. However to quote from the service manual:

Cylinder bore(s) can be repaired by one of two methods:

Method 1: Over boring and using oversize pistons and rings.

Method 2: Boring and installing a repair sleeve to return the bore to standard dimensions.

It goes on to describe each method of repair. It does say that if the cylinder must be bored over . 039" that it MUST be sleeved. These sleeves are dry sleeves.

What a bummer...

You dont have to worry about leaky orings, cracked liners and cavitation. I think by the time the CTD needs reboring ,the D/C parts will be falling down all arround it. ;)

My racing partner has a automotive machine shop here in So-Cal. He has sleeved a couple of blocks for Glen Thomas Dodge. Properly done the cylinders are actually stronger than original.

D'oh!

I thought we had sleeves... . crap!

Oh well.

Not that I need to worry... . yet.

Thanks for the replies!

Matt - slightly disappointed.
