I wouldn't do it like that. If you like to breathe AND use the back window, that setup won't work.

Look around at some of the drag racing videos. You'll see why

Don't care for the stack look myself. But more importantly theres no way I"d ever sacrifice that much usable space. The camper eliminates the option for me, but even without it I'd want a bed box in there and I could just can't see leaving a gap.

I don't have a sliding back window because they are a pain in the rear, leak (over time) and are really easy to break into.

just FYI, stacks are quieter outside the truck than regular straight pipe... my neighbors thanked me when I put stacks on my 97 because the 5" straight pipe was so loud.

so, no need for a muffler! :D

Thanks for all the replies to this thread. It's been a hard decision but, I'm doin' it!

I talked to Josh @ Grand Rock for a while about it. He said they're working on some new muffler inserts that drop into the stacks that are a better design and quieter. So, when they're ready... . I'll post some pics on the completed job.

He also mentioned he has a dealer that has a over stock of 30" miter cuts which would bring the stacks just to the top of the cab. That's the look I'd like but, I assume it will also make it louder in the cab. I guess I can always change them to 36" if it's too bad.

Chris... .
your truck looks nice from what I can see. How bout' a pic of the whole truck. I think the bullhaulers definitely look better on duallies... . don't think they'd work on mine for my taste. How do they sound windows up and down ?

They sound a lot better now with my muffler back in. They are no louder than the 5in turbo back with muffler only set up I had on it. Can hear the radio and have a conversation without having to scream!! LOL!! I think bullhaulers are more dually suited too. I will get some pics of the entire truck soon and post them. It rained here today and the truck is a mess. Let me know when you do your truck Triton. You will love them! I will also email you a little mount that I fabbed up. Helps keep things secure without having to use the brackets on the side of the bed for the stacks.

Triton,

I finally did it. Took a while to install but I am pretty anal on things like this. I am actually not done. I am going to build a diamond plate shield around the pipes in the bed and install a muffler to kill a bit of the noise. Don't get me wrong it sounds killer but the cops around here, i just don't want to draw attention (not like it already does)

Hey Chris, those look awesome where did you get those? (LOL):-laf

They look a lot like the ones that WERE on your truck!! LOL!!Oo. Got the muffler installed today and have gotten a lot of comments on them.

Yeah they do!!! I thought I've seen them somewhere. Anyway, I ordered a MBRP 5" exhaust from Autoanything and then a Aero Turbine muffler the 5050L from diesel power products today, so I'll be stacking those when I go back up to see ya'll. It will be intresting to see how it sounds. I also got the MBRP 14" long 6" tip... I can't wait!!! I wanted to plug Diesel Power Products real quick. I had a question about the aero turbine and called to leave a message on Easter Sunday and not only did I get a real person "BRAIN" he took the time to answer my questions... Thanks Brain and TDR members get a 5% discount

you know my garage is always open (so to speak) if you need help installing everything. I have a welder, band saw and a bunch of other toys to help us install. Just hollar when you are coming up.

Not to be a kill joy . . but... ... ... ... We all like to BOMB our trucks and extra fuel makes extra smoke ..... AND..... Yes the smog gods are watching ... . AND your advertising ... . When I was a kid in People's republic of Kaliforna I cut the exhaust pipe off 1/2 way back under the car to hide my bad rings ... . But blowing smoke out the top of your truck... you've got to be kidding ... They're cracking down just about everywhere with fix-it and smoke tickets... ... ... ... ... ... . Holes in the bed = Holes in the wallet

I think some 7" miters would look really nice on your truck. Keep'em low though.

I agree, Mine are only about 2-3 inches above cab hieght and slighly in from bed edge

An ohh yeah, I knows is been said before, but once you go stacked, you wont go back... . (well most of the time)

I will do my next truck with stacks right when I buy it, I like the look that much...

Heres some good reading and an updated pic:

BTW, this was a kit from "grand rock pipes", bought from ED kin at Heavy truck parts Int'l (813-991-7001)- He is BY FAR the cheapest price, And his price (he sells them on ebay) includes chrome stacks, but he was cool and let me downgrade to save a few bucks. .

I am not trying to start an argument but what is the difference when you BOMB your truck and puke the smoke out the side vs out the top? The truck is stock for the time being and it smokes already and I try my hardest to stay out of the PROK!! LOL!! I do have a bunch of plans for the truck in the future ie. . twins, studs, transmission, converter, smarty, tst, injectors, inner cooler, cold air, intake, water meth you get the idea. That is why I put the muffler back on it to quiet it down a bit. The guy I got them from said the cops in his area looked out for him because it sounded like he was getting on it when he wasn't. With the muffler on it, it is no louder than when I had it out the right rear of the truck.
