AH jeeze - what a topic to even consider any rational thought or expression other than slobbering adoration to dogs and pets of all sorts... :-laf

SO, rather than risk lynching - and we have had our own long string of appreciated dogs and cats - let me simply offer this:

Please realize, understand, and accept - that not ALL who live or otherwise are near you, feel the same degree of mindless adoration and pet worship as you do for your precious darling. Some place a higher value upon peace and quiet, tidy and QUIET, bark/howling/screech-free yards and neighborhoods that THEY can enjoy too!

Seems that when most individuals decide THEY want a pet - they automatically assume all their neighbors do too, and thoughtlessly impose the bad manners and lack of training of their pets on all around them, like it or not.

We ourselves, have neighbors with 3 loudmouth dogs - one a hound with a baying bark that could wake the dead. These "pet-loving" neighbors all work or are in school, so leave their darlings outside to loudly and continuously serenade the entire neighborhood.

And the sad thing is, anytime the faults of the personality or training of a revered pet is brought up - it's the one who dares complain that is held up as the "bad guy"...

OK, I'll slink off to the sidelines, and accept my roasting now... :-laf

No I do agree

100 % that pet owners must accept responsibility for their Pet's behavior..... and continually barking is not acceptable... ... unless they are being teased or chasing away the bad guys
(or relatives).

And I know a lot of owners see no fault in their pets... ... but those of us who do things correctly - I hope - understand that they are simply the best.

And if you have never given your heart to a dog, or had it stolen from you by one of them - you my friend, have never truely lived!

My wife and I have had dogs all our lives - and fully appreciate the friendship and companionship they provide. On the other hand, we were both raised in rural farming areas - and pretty much all animals are regarded as more utility and not placed quite as high on a pedestal as the urban folks do - in short, we value human life and existence at a higher level than that of pets.

And lots of pet lovers (the ones far more dedicated (fanatical?) than we are) will look you straight in the eye, and tell whoever will listen, that if forced to choose, they'd choose their dog over a human any day. I'd sure hate to be in a life-threatening situation such as a fire or accident, and rely upon one of those to choose me or my family over their pet...

We had to put down our last dog just last Fall - old age had made her arthritic, deaf and partly blind. She was unable to hear or be properly aware of the many deer in this area, and had been seriously stomped by them several times - and her age made proper recovery pretty much impossible, so that was the end of that. She was a relatively small Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, slick haired, mild mannered, and very quiet - an excellent RV companion - and yeah, we will miss her, my wife especially - but life goes on.

Probably no more dogs in our future - don't want to get involved in pets that would likely outlive us, and be seriously uprooted if we were no longer around...

Cheers... :)
