Believe it or not its not really that bad right now. Its alot worse when its blowing 40 mph. . :D

Hey at least the sun is shining occasionally , that must warm it up a bit !!!:-laf :-laf Honestly now, how can you sorry ******** put up with that crap ??

My dad works for Crowley Maritime as a tug captain, and goes up to Prudhoe at least twice a year... He has done the Sea-Lift module run from Seattle-Prudhoe several times. Talk about a long haul!

He has taken some really cool pictures up there, and has a number of interesting stories!

I would not want to be in Prudhoe in the winter time.

Since I've never had the pleasure of that cold of weather... ... can you feel the difference between 30 and 40 below(not wind chill)? Or is it all the same after a certain point?

Oh yea, what kind of boots do you wear? :)

Stay warm, Rob

Do you need any help up there? I don't know anything about drilling for "black gold", but it would be a nice excuse to visit Alaska again. Besides, it's only gotten down to -8 so far, not even worth getting the woolen long jons out of moth balls.

From my father in law in Fairbanks:

We are having some rather unusually windy conditions right now. 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40. Here. In Fairbamks, in the windless Interior. What a let-down , they promised temps in the -25 to -40 range, but it is only around 0 to -10 or so. What a dissapointmment. Looks like we won't get any real winter this year, except for a couple feet of snow, but what good is that when it's too warm to play outside comfortably?

Oh yea, what kind of boots do you wear?

Lucky for me I work inside almost all the time so I don't work in the weather that much. If I have to go outside for a long time I wear military surplus bunny boots, they are rated to -150 if I remember correctly. I have never had cold feet in them. When I am working on the rig and walking over to camp I wear Wolverine Dura Shocks. The only problem I have with them is that when its real cold the soles get real hard and slipery when you get on concrete. They are insulated and I have worn them down to -15 for a couple of hours outside with out much problem.

Pic of Bunny Boots.

can you feel the difference between 30 and 40 below

Yes I think I can. I have been in -60 and its painfull to breath, just walking 100 yards and my mustache is full of ice, I can't see because there is ice on my eye lashes, etc.

-30 is not too bad, I walk the 100 yards to the drilling camp with out a jacket :D

Now once the wind comes up, give up all hope. . -20 with a good wind and I am freezing. The worst windchill I have been is is -125 and I had to work outside for a couple of hours. It sucked.

I don't know what the wind chill was but the worst cold I've dealt with was -25 with winds of 50-60 mph. That was at 17,200' on Denali. Windstorm lasted for 36 hours. We summitted the next night with -35 and dead calm. Also, there was no one else up on the upper part of the mountain since most people do that during the day. Watched the sun set and rise from the summit.

Guess it's really not that bad here....

I woke up this morning and it was just about 0. The high is supposed to be 17 today.

Pretty cold for being by the beach in NJ. :D
