4/21 and It's Snowing! GRRRR!!!!

What Do You Collect?

O. K. , stop the giggles. I contracted a toenail fungus in my big toe while we lived in Scottsdale, Az. , quite common there. Fought it for a few years to no avail, even tried the prescription pill recomended. Too expensive, and a long time to wait and see if it worked.

Last week's local newspaper had their usual syndicated DR. Gott column, and a woman wrote in to tell him about how she and her husband had discovered what appears to be a simple cure for the fungus. They applied liberal amounts of Vicks Vaporub to the toes twice daily, and the fungus was gone in one month.

Last friday, after reading this, I decided to try it. Guess what, it's working! All the white colored mushy stuff at the tip of the nail came of with yesterday's clipping, and the whole nail is back to it's normal color. The tissue around the tip is red and healthy looking. Looks like I might have it on the run, finally. I'll report more when it's justified, but is this not an interesting "medical breakthrough"? No more toe jam!

By the way, the prescribed medication was $375. 00 for a thirty day supply!

Another cure discussed on a boatbuilding news group is to use ethylene glycol (antifreeze). Don't use proplyene glycol, the nontoxic antifreeze. The ethylene glycol is toxic if you ingest it (drink it).

The author/proponent discovered ethylene glycol was toxic to plants and fungus. He then experimented with ethylene glycol to kill dry rot in wood boats and ultimately experimented with toe fungus. He says it is also effective for athletes foot and jock itch.

Ther are a lot of these old time but proven remedies, kerosene for scrapes, axle grease for abraded knees. My favorite is the flu/fever cure: simmer red wine with cloves, dring it as hot as you can stand it and wrap up in OLD sheets..... I woke up sweating like a pig and heathy as a horse. An old Italian landlord reccomended this..... I was sick and late with the reny!

A russian friend of mine as almost the same cure for the cold/flu

in bed, window open, under lots of blankets, lots of Vodka...

ol ron. . If you would have asked me, I would have been happy to suggest a remedy that would not only rid you of the fungus, but make it so you could never get it again. I'm glad you found a solution to your problem though. Now maybe you can get someone to suck your toes. :)

Now, if you have hemorrhoids, I suggest that you rub lemon juice on the infected area. You can also soak the area with gasoline and ignited it. After the blister heals and the swelling goes down. . no more hemorrhoid.

For smelly feet, soak them in warm tea, then serve the tea on ice at the next family picnic. Even if your feet still stink, you will have fun watching your mother-in-law drink the tea, especially if she's the one who told you your feet stink.

Doc

Doc your hemorrhoid cure is like the old cure for the crabs: shave half the hair off, light the remaining hair on fire then stab them with an ice pick as they run into the cleared area.

Sounds like they need to soak every day in strong salt water and pour some listerine antiseptic in there. Soak em once a day.

Then Dry them off very well, and put them in the sun for as long as possible every day. If you were by the beach you wouldnt have that problem.

Anyways, Fungus grows in moisture, and salt & listerine should kill it pretty dang dead, and the sun will dry it out, and enable your body to make some vitamin D to start healing itself.

Sounds like the vicks is helping, but really, id be very leary about putting any oily stuff on it. .

It needs to be killed (salt), dried (air) & sun (as much as possible).

But keep the ice pick handy as a next to last resort.

Maybe Doc tinker can carterize the stuff off!!

How about a propane torch?

Geeeezzz... what's next... . handy tips for Hootus problems... . ;) :p

You guys got WAYYYYYY too much time on your hands. . ;) ;)

Hold one here guys!!!!

Toe nail fungus is NO joke! I picked it up in Viet Nam and it has bugged me eversince ( I was there in 1954 when it was transioning from French Indo China to North and Sought Viet Nam). I have tried a variety of things and will probably try these suggestions. It is really hard to get rid of. My Doctor has it and has fought it for years with no luck.

This thread should have been titled: Fungus Among Us

Garlic tablets! Works for me. I take about 4-5 with the first bite of lunch whenever I have a fungus visiting. Gets rid of it pretty fast. Don't take garlic on an empty stomach or you will regret it!

Garlic? Fugetaboutit!!

If I have just a little garlic(well, I actually like a bit more than a little:D ) on a slice of pizza, my wife tells me I smell like garlic for two days.

Shower dont help. Lots of water dont help. I'm glad I dont smell it. :p

Yeah Patriot, that is the down side to it for some guys. I can take up to 6 tablets without it bothering anybody. I took 10 once, though. and reeked like crazy. There was also an unpleasant side effect to more than 6 tablets... ummmm... shall we say the exhaust is pretty noticable!

As in... CLEAR THE ROOM NOW!!!!

My daughter gave a couple of garlic tablets to our dog once about a year ago.

Effects lasted about three days.

Talk about clearing a room?... ... ...

We made sure that she never made that error again. :--)

Just took my Lamisil pill a few minutes ago. Both my wife and daughter had toenail fungus cleared up using the prescription pills. After my wife cleared hers up, she badgered me so much about mine that I finally agreed to taking the pills.

I'm just starting my 3rd and last month using those expensive pills. Luckily my insurance pays for all but $25 for each 30 day supply.

The wife tried the Vicks stuff on her feet and it didn't help.

Hummm... . I was going to hook my dog up with a few fresh cloves. I heard that it gets rid of fleas.

I'm serious.

Eric

Our daughter heard the same thing. That's why she gave them to our dog.

I guess the fleas would have died from methane poisoning. :-laf

Afterwards we found out about scentless garlic tablets.

Still, it didn't seem to do much for the flea problem.
