Our township creates it own SOP's in regards to vehicle lighting. Just recently it was changed to a single rotator on the roof visible from 360. It used to be a minimum of two rotators.
Indiana finally did away with its old law which it had for years and years. The old law stated not more than 4 lights (lightbar considered one light) with one visible for 360 degrees mounted atop the vehicle. Lights were also allowed upon the front bumper or at bumper level. Lights also had to have a blue lens and were not allowed to have blue bulbs with a clear lens. That was it.
Now in 2003, you can finally just run a dash/deck light and also place blue lights in other places besides the roof. You can also use blue light tubes behind clear corner marker lamps. Red/Amber can be used to the rear. Kinda made some changes to meet the times.
We've got a 1970's Federal 4-beam rotator off the old fire truck I'd like to get a blue dome for. Its also got a place under the chrome base for a siren speaker. It looks like a 5 gallon bucket. It will also push the roof sheet metal down on lesser vehicles. I'm gonna start using that! To heck with strobes!
