The Tone wheel is bolted onto one of the flanges (I hope im using the correct term) on your crankshaft, right on or near the #6 cylinder.
The actual wheel is about 3 or 4 pieces, and has square teeth that are in an order so your ECM can recognize crankshaft position. These are secured with torx screws, and are used along with a sensor, for monitoring rpm.
It was present on models up to 2000 (if memory serves correct).
One can break, but if it did, then you would throw codes, and your engine would not run.
These usually dont break, unless you drop a crankshaft, or bang it with a hammer!!
Hope this helps!
