LT cover



Anyone have this cover on there truck? Looks pretty nice. Hefty price tag though. Do you all think this would work with an over the rail spray in bedliner (rhyno liner) This looks like a good investment, To further protect my inside of the bed, and the things i keep in it. Also id like the 2 MPG increase because of the aerodynamics... Who knows maybe we can do a group buy on this?

Just keep in mind you can't haul anything above the side of the bed. Kills the function of a P/U truck IMO

I have a similar cover made by ARE on a '99 1500 Silverado. We use for truck for horse feed and scuba so need to keep the back dry and secure - the cover is great for these.



I have a Roll N' Lock (http://www.rollnlock.com/) cover on my RAM2500. This is pretty much water proof, and rolls back so I can attach our gooseneck horse trailer, or carry tall stuff. A friend has had one his truck for about 3 years and it has proved robust.

It's not a hard cover but I have this Extang one and have had very good luckwith it. I had one on my last truck for 3 years and I never had any problems with it. Cheap too, does not leave any marks on the truck if you ever decide to remove it.

I've ordered a Pace Edwards Jackrabbit-similar to the Roll n Lock.



I like tonneau covers better than camper shells, but I still want to be able to use it like a truck without taking something off-the roll up covers allow that.



Just like the guys said, with a fixed cover you can't carry anything over the bed top without removing it-if you don't use your truck that way they look real good.



How much of the spray in bedliner is going to show?

How do you control the amount the Roll'nlock opens once you unlock at the end? Do you hold the strap and it just clicks in where you want it or does it just zing off to the end? When you want to cover the box back up do you have to scramble into the box to get the end of the cover, unlock the mechanism and pull it out to the end?

It looks like a neat product that I am seriously considering, any input is appreciated.

I'd recommend an Extang Fulltilt. I have the Cargomax variation. It's a tilt up cover like that one, but it's vinyl so it's very light and comes off easily. Much cheaper since you don't need to paint it and if you unexpectedly need to haul something tall, you can roll it back just like a normal cover.



Very happy with my Cargomax.

I attached the end of the pull cord to the tie down next to the tail gate in the bed (the cord comes with a clip for this purpose). When you release the cover it will roll all the way back if you allow it (you can control the speed by holding the cord). If you want it to set it intermediate points you just flip the release catch before you let it go back, then let it go all the way back, then pull it back towards the tail gate - it will halt at each stop (about every 18inches) if you wish.



You can lock the cover in the retracted position if you wish - but the spring is adequate to hold it there - that way you don't need to climb into the bed to release it before pulling it back towards the tail gate.



The manufacturers seem to have done a good job in making it easy to live with. Further, it's been around for a while so hopefully they have any bugs fixed. As I mentioned a friend has given one hard use for about 2-3 years and it's holding up well.

To answer your question, We don't know. I asked this very same question in a post last Fall; about 4 months ago. I



Well I went ahead and ordered one last week and it should be here about the middle of next week (Feb 18th?) I will do a detailed write up of the install and take pictures for readers rig. You can look at the few shots of my O4 now as it is a short box and they only make the LT Sport for the short box at this time. It is pricey but I jumped on board now as they lowered the price $20 and offered free shipping to boot.



It will work on and over the rail spray in liner. I have not done that yet, but have a bed-rug to install now instead.

I went for the Roll N Lock because it's available from a local (competitive to internet prices and trusted) truck outfitters and a friend had good experiences. I believe the Pace Edwards Jackrabbit is equivalent. The cover was installed by the store and they covered the post holes with colored matched blanking plates (I have a over-the-rails Line-X so the plates are black). They look good and are water proof. I have seen other trucks with chrome rails and the cover so that's another option.

This option is a bit more versatile than a solid cover. It removes easily by removing two set screws and is pretty easy to handle.

If you want a hard fiberglass cover, I highly recommend the LSII series by A. R. E. brand! Check it out at: www.4are.com/product/lsii/

You can also look for my rig's photos by searching in the Reader'sRigs section under my TDR username, "jfirebaugh". The A. R. E. website photos aren't that detailed.



What I like the best about the LSII A. R. E. top, besides the workmanship, better hinges/supports, & no-drill clamps, is the top's fiberglass shape. A. R. E. has duplicated the center hump from the hood of the 2003 and later Rams and I think it really looks good! It's raised in the center close to the cab, then tapers off to level with the rear. I think it really matches the truck well!



Last Spring my color matched LSII was in the low $900, installed, including the optional carpet liner and an inside light!



IMHO, the LSII A. R. E. is the best choice for both functional and style reasons. I'd buy one again in a heartbeat. Oo.

Got mine for a good deal from http://www.drvinylusa.com - they've got it listed under $500, I got it delivered for just less than that.



Arrived quickly, install was pretty easy. I needed something I could lock that would get out of the way for impromptu hauling/carrying needs. Perfect for what I was looking for.



The hard tonneaus are cool, but they're in the way if you want to carry anything big. I can also fold mine up and haul a horse trailer. When I get there, I fold it back down and have lockable storage again. This time of year it holds ice fishing gear and skis.
