Do I have a bad injector?

After having problems with low fuel pressure (10-11 idle) on my Fass 95-95 I searched the forums and found I could adjust the return spring to increase pressure. This I did with no problems and found that by replacing the spring with the 150 model spring I could peg the guage to over 30 psi idle.

I stretched out the old 95 spring and put it back in. I currently have 16. 5 psi on idle and 14. 5 WOT. This seems like its just a little above the average from reading the posts.

How much is too much? Is it ok to experiment in the 20-25 range or can I possible damage something / wear out nozzles faster, etc? I've got 230K on this 5. 9 with stock injectors and pump. I'm not looking to replace them any time soon.

I'm new to TDR - what a great source of information! Thanks in advance for any replys/comments.

you should be good. the few extra psi to the injection pump wount hurt your injectors.

I've read that the CP3 may start surging after 19psi - so if you raise the pressure into the 20's you may notice. I haven't heard of harm coming from it, just what sounds like regulation issues.

Most people with fueling mode run 30-35 psi to keep the CP-3 feed with enough fuel to keep rail pressure up. The CP-3 can easily take 90 psi under extreme conditions. Your fine at 20-25 with plenty of room for growth.

As it pertains to the above thread, I have a couple of questions regarding my Fass 95 & my VP-44 pump (Serial # 2783 Purchased 6-1-06).

1) What spring is in my pump? I have a 15 lb Autometer guage which is almost always "pegged"; but will drop to around 13. 5 lbs at WOT. I have heard that too much PSI is not good for the VP-44?

2) If available... would there be any advantage, other than noise suppression, to updating my pump? I've gotten used to the "hum" & the latter is not really noticeable except at idle.

Pump has been Rock-Solid... :)

Any thoughts on this most welcome...

Thanks Dan for your prompt response!

I have no starting issues whatsoever even after driving-stopping-starting in temps in excess of 100 degrees. Also the noise of my unit is also a non-issue if that is the primary benefit of having the pump retrofitted by your company. Except as noted, I basically can't hear the pump over the noise of the Cummins... :D Will check in with Ken Imler & explore my options should the situation become more of a nuisance.

I think I have a few more years left on my warrenty... . so life is good... :)

Thanks again... Charlie
