Howdy guys

You remember I just put a vp44 in my truck?

Well now I take it in to get the emissions done and it won't pass.

Remember I said it had alot more power?

Well when they get it on the dyno it pulls so hard and smokes so much that it won't pass.

It runs great and I still get 16 mpg so I really don't want to lose the extra power :{

Any ideas to get it to smoke a little less?

Thanks

Joe

Who's VP44

Where did you get the VP 44? I put a Hot Rod VP44 on my truck with the same results you are describing. Makes me wonder what they do to the pump to get the extra power.

Diesel Emmissions? I live in Nazi occupied Maryland and even we don't take our Diesels to emmissions!

Good Luck

I bought the VP44 on Ebay for $280 used. It came off a stock 2000 Cummins that was wrecked.

I talked to the guys from ATS down in Denver. They suggested that it could be a turbo problem. So I decided it was time for some gauges so I can tell whats going on. I got Auto Meter Pro Comp Ultra Lite's Boost, Pyro, and Fuel Press. I put them in this afternoon and I'm really pleased with the way it turned out.  The only problem I'm having is with the pyro. It sits at 0 till you give it WOT the it swings BACKWARD to 1100 and then back to 0 when you let off. Wiring I'm guessing.

Anyway it builds 27 psi of boost at WOT. So what do ya'll think? Can it still be a turbo problem? Or is it injectors?

I'm taking in to ATS on thursday next week. Hopefully they will be able to tell me what the problem is.

Thanks Guys

Joe

I got some gauges on it friday.

I'm getting 27 psi boost at WOT. From what I hear this is alot for a stock truck. So, since I bought it used with 134,000 on it, I'm thinking that someone put hi performance injectors in it, and the reason I didn't have the smoke or power before is the injection pump was weak since I got it. I will have the guys at ATS flow test them when it's in there.

But will injectors affect boost pressure? Could I have a wastegate problem?

Thanks

Joe
